Video / Screenshare "Coming soon!" Discussion & Timeline

Really appreciate the work you guys are doing on the stoat team and also the self-hosted docker team. Just opening this up for a discussion about the timeline of video features.

I noticed in @javif89's compose, video & screenshare actually work, but you can't watch multiple streams at once or listen to stream audio. I'm wondering if on the full / current in development version we will be able to?

I can't speak to the implementation of stream audio. Enabling video/screensharing is on the list of top priorities for the self-hosted team.

I see there's a PR already for enabling video in config. Nice.
Question regarding it: will hardware acceleration for transcoding be available from the get go or is it something to be added down the line?

I actually have no idea. That is likely handled by the livekit library.

You will not be able to turn on video for self-hosted instances until stoatchat/for-web#847 is merged.
