An ILDA laser projector, as an FFGL effect for Resolume Arena and Avenue. It finds the outlines in a clip and scans them the way a real projector does — two galvanometer mirrors chasing a point stream at a fixed rate, with a finite point budget per frame. The picture is where the beam went, at the brightness its dwell time gave it, so corner dots, softened corners, ringing and blanking hooks are consequences rather than drawn effects.

What is verified

By tools/verify.sh on an M4 Max, macOS 26.4:

  • Galvo step response: overshoot within 0.1% of exp(-πζ/√(1-ζ²)) at five dampings, both axes; the eight-point residual matches the exact closed form to three decimals.
  • Energy conservation: 0.026% spread across twelve galvos (8–60 kpps, damping 0.4–1.2) and 0.011% across an 8:1 range of point rates, tolerance 0.5%.
  • Dwell to brightness: a 4-point corner measures 4.27× the side against 4.19× predicted.
  • Point budget: 4000 points at 8 kpps take exactly 30 host frames, the counter agreeing frame by frame.
  • All 24 swept parameters measurably change the picture.
  • Render cost 0.7–1.0 ms/frame at 720p and 1080p, 1.4–1.6 at 4K. macOS figures only.
  • Registered, loaded and instantiated in Resolume Arena 7.27.1 (build 15990) on Windows on 2026-09-21, with the shaders compiling — on a software rasteriser (Mesa llvmpipe), not a GPU.

What is not

  • Never run on a GPU in Resolume, and never instantiated in Arena on macOS.
  • Nothing was timed on Windows, and nothing there was exercised beyond instantiation: no long session, no composition save and reload, no preset recall.
  • It models an ILDA scanner and does not output ILDA, so it has never driven a real laser.
  • No user guide, no browser demo, no OpenFX port, no factory presets, no Plotter mode.

The macOS build is signed and notarised; the Windows build is unsigned, so SmartScreen warns once.
