The first release of Patchwork: a faulty LED video wall, as an FFGL effect for Resolume Arena and Avenue.
The wall is built the way real ones are — cabinets on a daisy-chained cable, each with its own receiving card, calibration table and modules driven one scan line at a time through an address decoder and a row of driver chips — and every fault is one of those stages lying. Nothing is drawn on top, so the looks fall out: the decalibrated patchwork of cabinets and modules; a processor map that repeats a few cabinets' content along the cable and moves it (Hold, Step, Scroll, Ping-Pong, Random), running opposite ways along alternate rows of the snake; a broken cable losing everything downstream to black, a frozen frame, the card's test pattern or garbage; late cards that make a cut ripple down the chain; zebra stripes from a stuck or floating address line, pinstripes from a dead row driver, a colour gone from a driver chip on; supplies that dim or trip under bright content, and heat that drifts a long-held bright cabinet cyan.
- Cabinet size in LEDs, LED pitch in pixels, fill, modules and scan ratio (1/1 to 1/32)
- The cable's route (row or column snake, raster), start corner and cabinets per port
- Every fault seeded, so a show fails the same cabinets every time
- 48 controls, a user guide
Measured offline by the plugin's own harness, at two rasters and on Apple's software renderer: a wall with nothing wrong is the clip to the byte; K batches are exactly K looks; a stuck address line moves light without removing any; a cut reaches each cabinet one frame per hop in the order of the cable, for every route, corner and port size; a break loses exactly the cabinets downstream of it; the repeated cabinets are right byte for byte in every motion and never mirrored; the heat follows its time constant to 1e-7. Fifteen negative controls and seven code mutations are shown to fail. On Windows it loads, registers and renders in Resolume Arena 7.27.1 with all 54 host controls as declared (software rendering, no GPU). It has not been loaded into Resolume on macOS.
Downloads: macOS universal (Apple silicon + Intel) as a .dmg or .zip, Developer ID-signed and notarised; Windows x64 as an installer or a .zip, not code-signed, so SmartScreen warns once. Drop the plugin into Resolume's Extra Effects folder and restart Resolume.
