Taproot v0.2.0

The extension now works when you're signed out. GitHub sends signed-out visitors to the older /files page, and the Taproot button didn't show up there. Now it does. On that page the PR is public, so Taproot reads it from GitHub's API, like the web app does.

Comments are now called notes. They never left your browser, but a "Comment" button next to GitHub's own looked like a PR comment. Notes you saved before still load.

The web app is now hosted on GitHub Pages: https://storymode7.github.io/taproot/

Also, the README has a short video for each tool.

Fixed: in the extension's panel, long function names and file paths no longer break one letter per line.

Upgrading: the CLI hasn't changed since v0.1.0, only its version number. For the extension, unzip taproot-extension-0.2.0.zip into an empty folder and load it with Load unpacked. Or replace your old folder and click reload on chrome://extensions.

First release of Taproot, a call-tree diff reviewer.

Taproot turns a diff into a tree of the changed functions: callers first, then the changed code they call. Each snippet holds the changes to one function, method or type, not a bare hunk. Accept, reject or mark each snippet reviewed as you go.

It comes as three tools that run the same engine on your machine, with no backend, no login and no telemetry:

  • CLI for local git changes: unstaged, staged, a branch (--base main) or one commit. y stages exactly the snippet you accepted, like git add -p.
  • Chrome extension for pull requests on github.com. It adds a 🌱 Taproot button to the Files changed tab.
  • Static web app (apps/pwa/) for public pull requests.

Supported languages: Go, JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, Java and Rust. Other files show as plain hunks under "Other files".
