Changes since version 0.5.5

simple-chess-cli:

  • The program will no longer crash, if the user enters an invalid field for a move.

  • The game can now be cancelled by typing "quit" instead of the fields for the next move.

  • The program will now try to detect whether UTF-8 can be used on the terminal, and if that is the case, then it will use Unicode chess symbols to display the pieces on the board instead of just letters.

However, that detection may be wrong in some cases, so it can be overridden by specifying either --letters as command-line parameter to use letters or --symbols to use Unicode chess symbols.

  • Files (a-h) and ranks (1-8) are now shown next to the board by default. Those labels can be disables via the new --hide-labels option or they can be explicitly enabled via the --show-labels option.
