What's new

  • Develop, on a web page's bar — tick it among a browser tab's controls for the page's source and DOM (each in an editor that only reads), the hard reload, and DevTools opened beside the page — reached through the app on a key made at each start, so no debugging port is opened. The right-hand column gets a Console for the page in view.
  • Point at parts of a page and hand them to an AI — each part goes into the AI's input as a draft, with its selector, markup and styles. Values that look like keys, and every secret the app holds, are hidden first.
  • A browser tab can show a file on this PC (D:/site/index.html), served over HTTP from its own folder on 127.0.0.1. Pressing a page, picture or PDF path on a terminal offers to open it there.
  • AIConfer — when one AI tab asks another, the Chat panel shows it as a chat: a face for every tab, one short line from each, the full request and answer folded underneath, marks, cards and decisions. ask_tab now takes that line before what it asks.
  • The AI command-line tools are asked once, at start, before their hooks are set up, with each file shown as it will be written. Codex now runs the hooks it is given.
  • Keep the PC awake while an AI works (Settings > Basic; off by default).
  • The AI allowance covers Gemini, Kimi, Grok, OpenCode Go and Cursor as well as Claude and Codex.
  • A Ports panel lists what listens in a folder — on this PC, a server or a MicroVM — and opens it in one press.
  • A check's log opens from the git panel, in an editor that only reads, at its first error.
  • Worktrees show how many files they have copied or deleted, warn before a large copy, and let a place deep inside an inherited folder be copied, linked or left out on its own.
  • The bridge on a server or a MicroVM is one resident process, and the server version's packages carry it.
  • The right-hand column holds only what the tab in view is used with.
  • Many fixes — see the changelog.

Which copy do you want?

Most people want the Microsoft Store version:
https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/9PB8XQVM87Z0

Microsoft signs the Store copy, so Windows raises no warning when it starts,
and it updates itself.

The download below is the portable copy. Same version, same source, same
build — but it is not code-signed, so the first run shows
"Windows protected your PC" (SmartScreen). Click More info → Run anyway
to get past it.

Take this one if you want nothing installed: unzip it anywhere, and delete the
folder to remove it.

Install (portable)

  1. Download SHIKISHA-TERM.zip below and unzip it anywhere
  2. Run SHIKISHA-TERM.exe

No installer, no admin rights, no API keys. Windows 10/11.

Verify the download with SHIKISHA-TERM.zip.sha256 if you like.

Linux

One static binary, no window, serving the board over the network — for a VPS
or a cloud VM you reach from a browser or a phone.

curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/styleio/ShikishaTerm/main/packaging/linux/install.sh | sh

It checks the checksum and the Ed25519 signature before it installs
anything, and refuses the download if either does not match. x86_64 and
aarch64; systemd service file included.

What's new

  • One AI tab sees a job through with others — ask an AI to, say, have <@claude> implement something and <@codex> review it until nothing is left. It becomes the job's lead: it adds tasks, assigns them to the tabs you named with @, and waits in an inbox that keeps every report, question and stop until it is dealt with. Workers ask the lead, not you; a decision that is yours (merging, say) is asked of you. A card shows the tasks and who is on each, and its Stop ends the whole job.
  • A bridge for servers and MicroVMs — tick "Put the bridge on this machine" (Settings > Where it runs > the machine) and the AI tabs there get the shikisha command too: they can be handed tasks and report back, and Find and the conversation reader run there. Untick it and it is deleted.
  • A Chat panel in the right-hand column shows what was said in the AI tab in front and who really sent each line — you, you from the phone, another tab, a job. Lines can be pinned and given a note.
  • Search every conversation from the conversation panel, on this PC and on your servers, and open a result where it was found.
  • Find reads every record all the way through, and says when a machine could not be searched instead of showing nothing.
  • shikisha takes the commands' own names — ask, run, do and tabs are now ask_tab, tab_run, browser_do and tab_list.
  • Installing an update shows its progress, and the window keeps answering.

What's new

  • @ hands work to another tab — type @ (or press the @ button) in the input bar to pick another tab on this desk; it becomes a chip in your message, sent as <@id>.
  • shikisha ask / run / do — the AI you are talking to asks another AI and reads its reply, runs a command in a terminal and reads the output, or hands a goal to a web page. A terminal or a page is only driven when you named it with @.
  • The first @ asks first — before the app teaches the AI how to do this. Settings > AI agents takes it out again.
  • Replies come from each AI's own record (Gemini's too), counting only what was written after the turn began, so an old answer is never mistaken for the new one.
  • An idle Codex tab shows as done again.
  • On a phone, Backspace leads the key row, and the input row gets the room back.
  • The 🎯 target panel is gone — @ and shikisha ask / run / do replace it. Its limits stay, under Settings > "Limits on handing work".

What's new

  • Projects on a MicroVM or a server reached over SSH — clone a project onto either one. It comes with the AI and what the project needs, and appears as a row on the board.
  • A folder there works like a folder here — the file list, search by name and by content, the editor, the git panel, pull requests, worktrees, attaching a file, and the AI that machine has.
  • A MicroVM pauses instead of ending — untouched, it pauses; typing into one of its terminals wakes it. Its AI comes back on its conversation when the app restarts.
  • A terminal on a server whose connection drops opens again once the server answers.
  • "Have the AI start the server" — the AI on that machine reads the project, installs what is missing and starts it in a tab of its own. Its ports open in a browser tab here: over SSH for a server, by a public URL for a MicroVM.
  • Worktree Creation Rules, a page per project — where its worktrees go (beside the checkout, the app's place, or a folder you pick) and what they inherit from the ignored files: copied, copied with names replaced, linked or left out.
  • Set up with AI — the assistant AI proposes a choice for each ignore line with a reason, and shows every change before anything is saved.
  • "Add a project" works from a phone.
  • Instructions to the AIs are in English only, and they answer in the screen's language.

What's new

  • Settings > Git accounts — the accounts this app knows, the GitHub sign-ins git on this PC holds, and the accounts GitHub CLI (gh) is signed in as, each with whether GitHub still accepts it. Add a token, delete one, or give it a display name such as "for the client".
  • Nothing chosen is this PC's git — a project that has chosen no account fetches, pulls and pushes the way git on this PC already signs in. Choosing is for the day that fails.
  • The git column says when it is the account — a fetch, pull or push refused as the account says which account was refused and what the server said, under a button that opens the place to put it right. A network that is down is reported as it came.
  • What git does is the project's — protected branches and the AI's commit, pull request and issue prompts live on each project's page. {language} can be written into them, and the default commit and pull request prompts write in the screen's language.
  • The AIs are one screen: Settings > AI agents — the assistant AI, Yolo mode, the naming AI and the new deciding AI, with the AI providers now the app's rather than a desk's. What each AI may be sent (pages, pictures) is agreed on its own row.
  • Quick actions can be put in folders, walked with Back as deep as they go.
  • The quick commands and the ideas open from any program with Alt+Shift+K and Alt+Shift+M (Ctrl+B k and Ctrl+B m still work). The keys are chosen under Settings > Shortcuts, the new name of Settings > Keys.
  • Fixed: closing the tab in front goes back to where you were rather than to the Issue tab; every row's right-click has Rename and Edit, not only a terminal's.

What's new

  • The screen goes out as video — a phone watching this PC now gets it as WebRTC video rather than one picture at a time: a third of the processor, a ninth of the bytes, and 78ms from here to there. Where video cannot be had at all, the old way is still there and is stepped back onto within seconds.
  • With the sound of the page being watched — that page's browser and nothing else of the room. It starts when the speaker is tapped and stops when the picture does.
  • A mouse points where it is pointing — a press lands where it was made, a drag drags, a double click arrives as one, and the pointer passing over the page is seen there. A finger keeps its trackpad.
  • A keyboard in another room types into the terminal itself, caret and IME and menu keys, as at the window. A phone keeps its input bar, and "Screen" in the keys panel hands typing over for whoever wants it the other way.
  • The ? beside the gear answers out of this copy's own settings, in the language you asked in, with the button that opens the screen an answer is about — and it writes into a box you point it at, unless that box holds a secret.
  • docs/SETTINGS.md and SETTINGS.ja.md — every screen, every box and the line under it, written out by the program itself, with a test that fails when the settings and the reference disagree.
  • A working folder's branch is named after the work, the once — yourname/login-form-crash in place of a name nobody chose, and only while the branch is still on a name this app drew.
  • A change can be thrown away from its own row, once you have been asked and shown the command that will run.
  • An AI typed into a terminal is noticed — the tab gets its mark, its states and its stop key.
  • A working folder that is not on this machine says so in a card, with all four answers: put it here, choose another folder, look away until the next launch, or take it off the list.
  • Fixed: the window no longer spins on its splash for ever; deleting a working folder no longer takes the conversations that happened in it, and a tab restarted during the day is remembered as it is now; closing one tab no longer takes the other tabs' conversations with it; the settings, the manual and the tools stay at the foot of a long sidebar; putting the window away no longer shrinks what a phone is shown; Esc, Tab and the arrows are not swallowed by an empty input bar.

@github-actions github-actions released this 18 Sep 14:28

What's new

  • A branch goes all the way in from the git column — commit, push, pull request, merge, with a row of steps saying which one it is on, and a conflict handed to an AI tab.
  • CI is counted in the column, and a failure is handed to an AI — the failed checks and the end of each log go to an AI tab in the branch's folder, told to fix only what the branch broke.
  • A working folder names and describes itself from what its AIs are asked — read from the record each CLI already keeps, so nothing is installed anywhere. Shown on a hover, on a phone's card, and in the folder's settings.
  • Files that are not UTF-8 read as their own words — a Shift_JIS diff, a comparison with a server's copy, and the editor, with an Encoding menu for when the guess is wrong. A file is saved in the encoding it was read in, and a character it cannot hold stops the save with a choice.
  • This app's own commands as MCP tools — SHIKISHA-TERM.exe --mcp hands an AI client every command the automation API has. Started by a CLI in a tab, its calls arrive as that tab, under that tab's permissions and chain limit.
  • A project on another machine's share is worked in like any other — a branch can be cut from it, a refusal by git is said in one line with the press that settles it, and a folder every branch shares arrives by the one kind of link that can point off this machine, or asks whether to copy it in.
  • Production is told from staging — a server is given a name and a colour, and every tab that reaches it wears them.
  • What a new worktree brings along is chosen a .gitignore line at a time; a tab that came up on nobody's conversation offers the way back; the bar across the top of a phone no longer runs out of room. See the changelog for the rest.

What's new

  • Pull requests from the git column — once a branch is pushed, the AI writes the title and description from its commits, the files it changes are listed and open in place, and it can close the issue its folder was made for.
  • Bring in the latest of the branch you started from, and hand a conflict to an AI tab. A pull request GitHub cannot merge for its conflicts is settled from its page the same way.
  • The commit message has a box of its own, and one button always does the next thing — add, commit, publish, push or pull — with the rest under its arrow.
  • A new issue can be written by the AI from its description, with labels and the assignee picked from lists.
  • Ideas — the 💡 beside the scissors opens cards to jot things on, per project, kept as they are typed, and sent on to a new issue.
  • Ctrl+Shift+K opens the quick commands and Ctrl+Shift+M the ideas, from any text box; Settings › Keys records whatever combination is pressed.
  • A change opens in an editor tab while the list of changes stays in front; a pull stopped by uncommitted work names the files in its way; an AI tab opened in a new worktree no longer quits on Claude Code's folder trust question. See the changelog for the rest.

What's new

  • Whole folders go to a server and come back from the file panel, with the same button a file uses, and the panel says which file it is on as it goes.
  • A send says what it would do before it does it — every file going over, beside what stands there now, with both sizes and times and the rows that would replace something marked. Bringing a file here asks before it replaces one too.
  • Compare holds a file up against its copy on the other machine, without either copy moving.
  • A worktree is deleted from the red last line of its right-click menu, asking first until told not to (Settings › Basic keeps the answer).
  • The input bar no longer covers the bottom of a terminal, so an AI's own prompt and mode line stay in sight.
  • With two GitHub accounts on this PC, git can be told which one to use.
  • For automation: shikisha.diff, shikisha.sftp_read, shikisha.list_files / list_path and shikisha.sftp_ls_here. shikisha.sftp_get now takes { overwrite = true } to replace a file here.
  • Fixed: a transfer froze every tab while it ran; a file new to the server could not be sent; a shorter file kept the old one's tail; a renamed folder went back to its old name; a folder with an editor tab tried to run a program called "editor". See the changelog for the rest.
