Certifications and Courses

Keep your diving qualifications and training history in one place — track every certification card you hold and every course you have taken, with photos, expiry reminders, and an instructor-signed training log.

Note

Where to find it: Bottom navigation or sidebar → Certifications for your certification wallet; Courses for your training records. Both sections are also reachable from the Dashboard.

Certifications

Adding a certification

Tap the + button on the Certifications list to open the add form. The following fields are available:

Field Required Notes
Name Yes Free text — e.g. "Open Water Diver"
Agency Yes Pick from: PADI, SSI, NAUI, SDI, TDI, GUE, RAID, BSAC, CMAS, IANTD, PSAI, Other
Level No Pick from a standard list (Open Water, Advanced Open Water, Rescue Diver, Divemaster, Instructor, Master Instructor, Course Director, Nitrox, Advanced Nitrox, Decompression, Trimix, Cavern, Cave, Wreck, Sidemount, Rebreather, Tech Diver, Other)
Card number No Your diver identification number from the card
Issue date No The date the certification was issued
Expiry date No Leave blank for certifications that do not expire
Instructor name No Name of the instructor who certified you
Instructor number No Instructor's certification number
Notes No Any additional information

Tap Save (or Add on the button) to create the record.

Card photos

Each certification stores a front photo and a back photo of the physical card. Tap either photo slot to take a new picture with the camera or choose one from your photo library.

Photos let you carry a visual copy of your card without the physical card, and they appear on the back face when you flip a card in the wallet view.

Expiry warnings

Submersion tracks expiry automatically using the date you entered:

  • Expires in X days — shown when fewer than 30 days remain.
  • Expires in X months — shown when between 30 and 90 days remain.
  • EXPIRING badge — displayed on the card in the wallet when fewer than 90 days remain.
  • EXPIRED badge — displayed when the expiry date has passed.
  • The Dashboard wallet widget shows a warning count badge if any certification is expired or expiring within 90 days.

Certifications with no expiry date show "No expiry."

The certification wallet

The wallet view displays every certification as an agency-branded card at credit-card proportions. Each card uses the colours associated with the issuing agency (for example, PADI cards use a blue gradient, NAUI cards use green). Swipe left or right to move between cards. Tap a card to flip it and reveal the back, which shows your card photo if you uploaded one, or a generated back face with instructor details.

Long-press a card to open a context menu with options to Share, View Details, or Edit the certification.

Tip

Tap the wallet icon in the top-right corner of the Certifications list to jump straight to the wallet view.

Sharing a card

From the wallet view, tap the share button (bottom-right) or use the context menu to open the share sheet. Two formats are available:

  • Share as Card — renders the agency-branded card exactly as it looks on screen and shares it as a PNG image.
  • Share as Certificate — generates a formal white-background certificate with your name, the certification name, agency, card number, and issue date.

Both formats can be sent to any app on your device that accepts images.

Courses

Courses let you record a training course as a distinct entity — with start and completion dates, instructor information, and a list of the training dives you completed during the course.

Adding a course

Tap + on the Courses list. The following fields are available:

Field Required Notes
Name Yes Course title — e.g. "Advanced Open Water"
Agency Yes Same agency list as certifications
Start date Yes First day of the course
Completion date No Toggle "Completed" on to set this; leave off for courses still in progress
Instructor No Pick from your Buddies list (certified instructors only) or type a name and number manually
Instructor number No Instructor's certification number
Location No Dive centre or shop where the course took place
Notes No Any additional information
Earned certification No Link to the certification record you received on completing the course

Tip

If the instructor is already in your Buddies list with a certification level recorded, they appear in the instructor dropdown and their name fills in automatically. You can still type a name manually if the instructor is not in your contacts.

Linking dives to a course

Open any dive in the Dive Log and edit it. The edit form includes a Course picker showing your in-progress courses. Select a course to associate that dive with it. The association appears on the dive detail page and the dive is listed in the course's training dives section.

A course's detail page shows all linked training dives, so you can review every dive that was part of the course in one place.

Instructor signatures

When a dive is part of a course, the dive detail page shows a Training Signature section. Tap Add Signature to open a signature capture sheet where the instructor can draw their signature and confirm their name. The signature is saved against that individual dive.

To view a saved signature, open the dive detail and scroll to the signatures section.

Tip

Signatures are captured per dive, which matches the standard training log format used by most agencies. A signed dive is a record that the instructor was present and reviewed that specific dive.

The earned certification link

When you complete a course and earn a certification, you can link the two records so navigation between them is easy. On the course edit form, use the Earned Certification picker to select the certification. On the certification list or detail page, you can navigate directly to the course that produced it. The link is bidirectional.

Course status

A course is either In Progress (no completion date set) or Completed (completion date set). The Courses list can be filtered by status so you can quickly see what you are currently working on.
