@sufyaandavids sufyaandavids released this 27 Aug 04:25

The chart analyser is usable full screen, and the app stops wasting your window.

Chart analyser

  • Full screen actually fills the screen. It was collapsing into the top of its own panel.
  • Labels no longer stack into one unreadable tower — they de-collide both ways, spill into a second column, and price levels label in the empty left gutter.
  • Searching US30 finds the Dow instead of the Nasdaq.
  • It sits before News in the sidebar now, and is called Chart Analyser.

Layout

  • Dashboard and Statistics are twelve-column grids. Both fit one screen instead of one and a half.
  • The equity chart no longer grows taller as your window gets wider.
  • The scroll bar is thin and matches your theme instead of being a pale slab down the side.
  • Headline figures moved off a monospace font onto the display face, with tabular figures so a live number stops jittering.

Settings

Cut from 981 words to 368. The step-by-step parts fold away until you need them.

Fixed

If your first closed trade was a loss, the entire Statistics tab silently failed to render — no drawdown, no revenge trades, no stat card. The equity curve never makes a high in that case, so the drawdown had no peak date to show and the render threw. It says "down from the start" now.

The Money Chronicle 1.5.0

@sufyaandavids sufyaandavids released this 26 Aug 14:04
972fb75

From this version on, the app keeps itself up to date.

You will need to install this one by hand — earlier versions have no updater in
them. After that you should not have to do this again: new versions download
quietly in the background and install the next time you close the app. If you
would rather not wait, a small bar appears once the download has finished with a
Restart now button.

That is the whole point of this release. Last version fixed a set of security
holes, and there was no way to get it to anyone who did not happen to check the
website.

Also in this build

  • The installer is now named without spaces in it. That sounds cosmetic and
isn't — the update manifest records the filename exactly, and the old name
would have broken every future update silently.
  • The website has been rebuilt, and now has a few things that move as you
    scroll: themoneychronicle.pages.dev

If you are coming from 1.3.0 or earlier, this also carries everything from
1.4.0 — a set of fixes for ways a web page open in another window could have
read your journal or sent commands to the app. Details are on that release.

Windows will warn that it does not recognise the publisher, because the
installer is not code-signed — certificates cost money every year and this is
given away. Choose More info → Run anyway.

Install over the top of your existing copy; your trades, notes and settings are
kept.

Security release. Everything below is about closing ways your journal could
have been read by something else on your machine — no feature was removed and
your existing trades, notes and settings are untouched.

What changed

  • The sign-in page the broker connection returns to, and the "file not found"
page, both echoed text from the address bar without escaping it. A link you
could be talked into opening was able to run code on the app's own address —
which is where your journal is stored.
  • Any website open in any browser could quietly send commands to the app: sign
you out of your broker, discard trades it had fetched but not yet stored, or
force a full history re-download. The app now refuses anything that did not
    come from itself.
  • The broker sign-in accepted any authorisation it was handed. It now only
accepts one that this app started, so nobody else's account can be attached
    to your journal.
  • A malformed web address could crash the app outright.
  • Text arriving from outside — the economic calendar, X posts, an imported
file's symbol column — is now escaped everywhere it is displayed.
  • A content security policy now ships on every build, so even if something did
get in, it has nowhere to send what it read.

  • The website has been rebuilt: themoneychronicle.pages.dev

v1.3.0 — Real broker costs, per-account views, drawdown and revenge trades

Choose a tag to compare

@sufyaandavids sufyaandavids released this 22 Aug 00:35
972fb75

What's new

Your broker's real costs. Swap and commission now come from the broker itself instead of being estimated from a per-lot setting. cTrader was reporting them all along and the app was discarding them, which left a small unexplained gap in the balance check. That gap should now close, or be named.

Already have a journal? Settings → Broker Sync → Re-import History re-reads your full history and fills the figures in on trades you already have. Nothing is duplicated and nothing you disabled comes back on.

Accounts stay apart. Connect demo and live and each keeps its own stats. One account is shown by default; pick more in the Account panel and rows get tagged. Trades are matched within an account, never across two — pooled accounts could previously pair an entry on one against an exit on the other.

Drawdown. Your worst peak-to-trough run, how long it lasted, and whether you have recovered. Measured on realised PnL, so a withdrawal is not mistaken for a losing streak.

Revenge trades. Flags a trade that opens within an hour of a loss closing and is at least 1.5x your recent median size, then shows how those trades actually did against everything else.

Windows: download the installer below and run it. Your existing journal carries over.

On a phone? The web version is at the site — no install needed.

The Money Chronicle 1.2.0

The Money Chronicle 1.2.0

The biggest release so far. Your broker can now do the journalling for you.

Broker sync

If your broker runs on cTrader — Fusion Markets, Pepperstone, IC Markets, FxPro
and most others, including accounts you trade through TradingView — connect
it once and you never export a CSV again.

  • Trades arrive on their own. While the app is open your broker pushes each
trade as it closes. If the app was shut, it catches up the moment you open it.
  • Deposits and withdrawals come too, straight into the account ledger, so
your equity and growth percentages stay honest without typing anything in.
  • It is read-only by permission. The app asks cTrader to view account
information only; placing, changing or closing a trade is refused by cTrader
itself, not merely left uncalled. Sign-in happens on cTrader's own page in your
real browser, and the app never sees your broker password.
  • It cannot double up your journal. Synced trades go through the same door as
a CSV import. Tested against a real account with both sources overlapping:
importing the CSV after a sync added nothing and recognised all 188 rows as
already present, and doing it the other way round produced the identical
    journal.

Windows only — this needs a kind of connection a browser isn't allowed to open,
so the mobile build still uses CSV import.

MetaTrader 4 and 5

New in this release too, and a different mechanism, so it's worth being clear
about which one you're getting.

MetaTrader gives no way for an outside program to read your account — there is
no equivalent of the cTrader connection above. So instead there's a small script
you run inside MetaTrader, which writes your closed-trade history to a CSV in
MetaTrader's shared folder.

Settings hands you the script and tells you where to put it. Point the
Auto-Import Folder at that folder once, and from then on Import finds the
newest export by itself.

So: one click inside MetaTrader rather than a live feed — considerably less work
than exporting from TradingView by hand, but not automatic the way cTrader is.
The script only reads your history and writes a file. It cannot place, change or
close a trade, and it sends nothing anywhere.

It can now tell you when a contract size is wrong

The multiplier decides what a one-point move is worth, and if it's wrong every
statistic is wrong by the same factor. Without a broker attached the app guesses
from the ticker, and guessing is fragile — an oil symbol spelled XTIUSD looks
exactly like a currency pair, and was being priced 100x too high.

With a broker connected the real figure is now solved from your own closed
trades, per symbol. Settings shows you the comparison and changes nothing until
you say so.

The name-based guesses are fixed too, for CSV-only journals: every metal and
energy spelling is now recognised properly.

A rebuilt interface

  • Navigation moved to a sidebar. Seven tabs, a logo and the main actions used
to share one row and collapse into a pile at anything under a wide window.
  • Three themes — Chronicle (the original gold on near-black), a neutral Dark,
and Light. The window's own title bar follows your choice.
  • A short walkthrough on first run, opening with the theme picker so you
choose by looking rather than reading. Skippable, and replayable from Settings.
  • Settings is five named groups instead of nine identical stacked panels.
  • Phones get a bottom navigation bar instead of a wrapping row of tabs.

Achievements got harder

The old thresholds unlocked within a week of normal use, so the tab filled up
immediately and never changed. They now start where the old ones ended, the
80% win week needs ten trades rather than five, and there are new awards for
profit factor and consecutive green months. Locked achievements are now
visible
— one you can't see isn't a goal.

Anything you already earned stays earned.

Economic calendar

Leads with what hasn't happened yet, and collapses already-released events behind
a toggle. A release keeps an hour of grace, because a number that just printed is
the one time "Actual" is worth looking at.

Fixes

  • Installing the app on a phone was broken. The first visit worked and every
launch afterwards failed. Cause: the host redirects the app's URL, and a browser
refuses a navigation that a service worker answers with a redirected response.
  • The Windows title bar was a white strip above a near-black app.
  • The enable/disable switch in the Trades list rendered as a sliver with its
    knob floating outside it.
  • Sync no longer re-downloads your whole history on every launch, and shows
progress during the one download that does take a moment.
  • Long help text in Settings ran the full width of the window.

Also

The website has been rebuilt, and its menu now works on a phone — previously the
links were simply unreachable there without requesting the desktop site.

Your data stays on your machine. No account, no server, no telemetry. Free.

v1.1.6 — Multi-broker support & Live on X

Choose a tag to compare

@sufyaandavids sufyaandavids released this 13 Aug 00:55

Now works with any broker

The Money Chronicle is no longer tied to one broker. Import still works exactly the same way — it reads a TradingView "Orders Filled" CSV export, which works for any broker you have connected to TradingView.

One thing to watch if you're switching brokers: contract sizes vary between brokers, so check a trade against your broker's statement and adjust the multiplier in Settings if the PnL looks off. The balance reconciliation panel is there to catch exactly this.

New: Live on X in the News tab

The Market Headlines panel now has a News Articles / Live on X switcher. Live on X shows real posts from market-moving accounts — squawk desks, Fed reporters, Treasury, and the White House — filtered by the same topic tabs you already use. Tap any post to open it on X.

  • New "US Policy" topic — @WhiteHouse, @Potus, @PressSec, @SecScottBessent, @USTreasury, filtered down to posts that actually touch markets rather than general politics
  • "Market moving" badge on accounts that break news first, so their posts stand out and don't get buried by higher-volume accounts
  • No account or login needed, and nothing about you is sent anywhere

Notes

  • Live on X is desktop only for now. On the mobile/web version the panel falls back to news articles — the public service the posts come from refuses traffic from the mobile host.
  • Headlines are still free and still need no sign-in. Your trade data continues to stay entirely on your own machine.

Installing: download the .exe below and run it. Windows may warn about an unrecognised app — click More info → Run anyway. Your existing trades and notes are kept.
