Best Practices and Initialization Functionality

wouldn't it be nice if the MCP had some context on what the best practices for initializing supabase, writing SQL, auth, storage, db. security, etc?

Agreed 💯 MCP prompts and resources lend well to this kind of thing, but unfortunately not many clients support these primitives yet (today).

Our long term goal is to somehow incorporate these prompts into MCP. For tools specifically, our only method of prompting is through the tool and field descriptions. In the past adding a ton of prompting to these descriptions resulted in mediocre performance compared to system prompt, but newer LLMs might be better at this.

There's also the undocumented instructions field that can be passed back as part of the initialization message, but I haven't tested to see if any clients supports this.

@gregnr my current work around for this is using the Perplexity MCP to generate context in a markdown file and then referring to it, it works pretty well.

sidenote, i am still so sad that there is no official support for selfhosted supabase as the other MCPs simply haven't replicated the greatness of this one. i was trying to make a fork with a potential fix but haven't gotten anything working yet
