v0.1.1 — embedded skill
Supersedes v0.1.0. Use this one — v0.1.0's binaries can't install the agent skill.
What changed
The skill is now embedded in the binary:
goblin-mny install-skill # -> ~/.claude/skills/goblin-mny/SKILL.mdIn v0.1.0 the only way to install the skill was cp -r skills/goblin-mny ~/.claude/skills/ from a clone — which silently didn't work if you'd downloaded a binary instead, since you had no repository. The download path skipped the skill entirely.
Shipping the skill as its own release asset would have fixed that but introduced a worse problem: a separately versioned skill can describe tools the installed binary doesn't have. Embedding it means the skill and the tools are always the same vintage, by construction.
install-skill is idempotent, and won't overwrite a hand-edited copy unless you pass --force.
SKILL.md is attached below if you want to read it before installing — but you don't need to download it, the binary already has it.

macOS: these are unsigned, so Gatekeeper quarantines them on download and reports the binary as damaged rather than as blocked. It isn't damaged — clear the flag once:
xattr -d com.apple.quarantine ~/.local/bin/goblin-mnyChecksums in SHA256SUMS. Each binary is self-contained — no Node, no Bun, no node_modules at run time. They're large (60–95 MB) because the whole runtime is embedded.

What it does
Syncs your accounts from an Akahu personal app (free, self-serve, scoped to your own accounts) into local SQLite, and exposes nine analysis tools to Claude — spending summaries, cashflow, subscription detection, full-text search, and a read-only SQL escape hatch.
Aggregation happens in SQL before the answer reaches the context window, so "what did I spend on coffee last month" is one small result rather than tens of thousands of tokens of paged JSON.
Two things that make the numbers right
Internal transfers aren't spending. Moving $500 into savings isn't $500 spent, and paying off a card double-counts purchases already recorded on it. Counting them overstated spending by ~48% on the test fixtures and by more than 100% on a real account. Cashflow is the subtle case — income and expenses inflate by the same amount, so net stays correct while both components are wrong, and a spot-check passes.
Your bank's labels are not everyone's. goblin-mny diagnose detects transfers structurally — paired legs across your own connected accounts — and proposes rules into ~/.goblin-mny/rules.json. Nothing bank-specific ships in the codebase. Proposals are never auto-applied: amount-matching also matches coincidences, and a bad rule silently deletes real spending.
Credit-card repayments are excluded only where the card's own history covers that date. Banks commonly expose just a few months, and plenty of people repay a card they never connected — in both cases the repayment is the only record of that spending, so dropping it understates outgoings just as silently.
Privacy
Your Akahu tokens and your transactions never leave your machine. There is no hosted component. Each person runs their own copy with their own tokens — which is why this uses personal apps rather than OAuth, since OAuth would mean routing everyone's bank data through a single shared third-party app.
The local database is not encrypted at rest. Fine on a personal machine; worth knowing if you sync your home directory to cloud storage.
Try it without a bank account
goblin-mny seed-demo # 18 months of synthetic dataRequires a New Zealand bank account and a free Akahu personal app (identity verification and 2FA required). Read-only by design — personal apps cannot make payments.
v0.1.0 — first release
Superseded by v0.1.1 — the binaries here cannot install the agent skill (goblin-mny install-skill was added in v0.1.1). Please use the latest release.
