Yappy 2.9.0
What's new in 2.9.0
Listening glow
- The recording pill now shows a soft animated glow while your hotkey is held — choose Rainbow, White, or Orange in Settings.
- The glow carries through to the Answers pill and the expanded answer card, so you always know when Yappy is listening.
Answers: much better spoken replies
- New voice speed setting: Relaxed, Normal, Brisk, or Quick.
- Tables are read naturally (cells joined into sentences, long tables summarized) instead of line by line.
- Dates, times, temperatures, comparisons, abbreviations, and dozens of other text shapes now speak correctly ("Tue Jul 15" no longer becomes "Too jool"; "-5°F", "3 hrs", "w/o", "St. Louis", "1920x1080", "#1", "Boston–NYC" and more all read the way you'd say them).
- Emoji are no longer named aloud, markdown symbols are never spoken, and code-only answers announce the code block instead of reciting it.
- The model's opening narration ("I'll look up...") shows while it works but disappears from the card and the voice once the answer arrives; sources are no longer read aloud.
- Speech starts sooner after the first words stream in, and a single bad chunk no longer silences the rest of the answer.
Fixes
- Selecting Grok as the Answers model right after logging into the CLI now takes effect immediately.
- Pressing Stop while the voice is speaking no longer pins the conversation.
- Fixed answers occasionally arriving truncated when the agent asked for search permissions.
