What's new in 3.0.0

Voice Edit (experimental)

  • Select text in any app, hold Right Option, and say the change — "make this bullets", "make it more formal", "fix the spelling".
  • A preview card shows exactly what will change before you press Replace; Escape or ignoring it leaves your text untouched. Nothing is ever rewritten invisibly.
  • Cleanups like case, bullets, numbering, quotes, and spacing are deterministic; free-form rewrites run on-device with Apple Intelligence (macOS 26+).
  • Off by default — enable it in Settings → Voice commands & formatting.

Faster from voice to text

  • Short dictations now land essentially instantly: quick replies skip the heavy polish pass they never needed (and still get proper capitalization and a period).
  • The insert path does less work before every paste, so text appears the moment you release the key.
  • New "How much cleanup" setting: Standard polishes lightly, Conservative only fixes punctuation, capitalization, and standalone fillers — no rewording, your words stay yours.

It learns your words

  • Say "scratch that", correct a word, and Yappy learns the correction as a dictionary alias on the spot — with a one-click Undo on the pill.
  • Only high-confidence corrections are applied; uncertain ones become suggestions in Dictionary instead. Nothing is ever changed silently.

Every command, one page

  • A new Commands tab lists everything you can say — punctuation, line breaks, lists, "press enter", edits — generated from the same code that parses them, so it's never out of date.

Failures show their face

  • If text can't insert, the pill says so and a tap copies your words so nothing is lost.
  • A silent microphone, a signed-out Answers backend, or an empty transcription all show an honest message instead of failing quietly.

Answers: pick your Ask key

  • The Ask key is now configurable: Fn/Globe (default), Right Control, Right Shift, or Right Option — for keyboards where the Fn key is handled in firmware and never reaches macOS.
  • Keys already used by dictation or Voice Edit are guarded against, with a clear note in Settings.

Install

Download the DMG, drag Yappy to Applications, and open it. On first launch, grant Microphone and Accessibility in System Settings → Privacy & Security. Existing installs update automatically via Sparkle.
