Verdant v1.2.0 — install fix, double-click to play, faster lists

Standard (non-portable) installs went to the wrong folder

foobar2000 v2 keeps its profile in %APPDATA%\foobar2000-v2, not %APPDATA%\foobar2000. Verdant's installer used the old path, so on a standard install it reported success while writing to a folder foobar2000 never reads — the theme simply never appeared. Portable installs were unaffected.

If you installed v1.0 or v1.1 on a standard install and nothing happened, this is why. Thanks to @TurquoiseA for finding and fixing it.

Playback controls

• Tracks play on double click. A single click on a dense list was too easy to fire by accident, and a mis-hit stopped whatever was playing. The play triangle that replaces the track number on hover is still a single click.
• The back button restarts the current track once you're more than a second into it, and only steps back at the very start. Media keys still always step back — a panel can't intercept those.

Faster

• Track lists appear straight away. All Songs and playlists used to sit on a loading skeleton for seconds waiting for thumbnails, with a 12-second fallback. The rows are ready in milliseconds; thumbnails now arrive after them.
• Cover art is served in priority order — sections still loading first, then what's on screen, then background pre-loading, which now only reads when the drive is otherwise idle. On a large library on a hard drive, covers load around three times faster.

Fixes

• Restoring from the taskbar no longer leaves the window grey until you hover it.
• Auto-scrolling lyrics no longer spill over the Queue/Lyrics tabs, or over the header in fullscreen.

Verdant v1.1.0 — visualizer styles, smarter cover art, faster playlist switching

Visualizer styles

Fullscreen has a style picker now, remembered across restarts.

• Bars — the mirrored pills from v1.0.0, unchanged
• Radial ring — the spectrum wrapped around the album cover

The spectrum behind both was rebuilt: it had been decimating its input (folding treble down into the bass) and spacing bands by FFT bin index instead of by frequency. Now Hz-based, dB-mapped, treble-tilted, fast attack and slow release. Visualizer frames repaint only their own band.

Cover art

Artist, playlist and All Songs covers use the first album that has artwork, instead of whatever the first track happened to be. Placeholder colour only when nothing in the set has any. Playlist mosaics follow the same rule.

Large playlists

• Switching away and back no longer rebuilds the view or drops it to a skeleton.
• Row thumbnails no longer reload when their source image has been evicted.

Lyrics

Lyrics without timestamps scroll on the wheel — right-hand tab and fullscreen. In fullscreen the wheel stays the volume control when there is nothing to scroll.

New property

Playback: output ceiling (dB below max) — default 0, foobar's range unchanged. Negative lowers the whole slider range: -12 is a quarter of the amplitude. Right-click → Properties, then Reload.

Verdant v1.0.0 — a modern Spotify-style theme for foobar2000

Verdant is a modern Spotify-style theme for foobar2000, drawn from scratch in a JSplitter panel. It restyles your local library and playlists — it does not connect to Spotify's service.

Install

1. Install foobar2000 as portable from the official website.
2. Download Verdant-v1.0.0.zip below.
3. Extract the profile folder from the zip into foobar2000's root folder (the one containing foobar2000.exe).
4. Start foobar2000 and enjoy.

No components to install separately — Columns UI, JSplitter and UI Wizard are bundled. No fonts to install either: Verdant uses Segoe UI and Segoe MDL2 Assets, both of which ship with Windows 10 and 11.

For a standard (non-portable) foobar2000, extract the contents of profile into %APPDATA%\foobar2000 instead.

Already have a foobar2000 you've set up?

Don't extract over it — profile carries a layout and core settings that would replace your own. Close foobar2000, double-click install.bat, and start foobar2000.

The installer only adds the components you're missing, and if you already use Columns UI it replaces only the panel layout — your colours, fonts, playlist columns and filters survive, because it uses Columns UI's own layout import rather than overwriting its config. It backs up whatever it touches and writes an uninstall.ps1 beside the backup.

Requirements

foobar2000 v2, 64-bit, on Windows 10 or 11.

First run

Verdant reads foobar's Media Library. On a new foobar that library is empty, so Home and All Songs stay blank until you add a music folder under Preferences → Media Library. That's expected, not a broken install.

Tuning

Right-click the panel → Properties:
