Themes and Appearance
TLDR
- In the 1.4.0 feature set, selectable SW5E theme modes are removed
- Application chrome follows stock Foundry / DND5e presentation
- Core SW5E branding remains: animated Pause display, lightsaber sheet headers, and approved logos/icons
- Stale world
themeModevalues are ignored; no game-data migration is required- Essential Starship functional/layout CSS remains for vitals and related controls
This page explains how SW5E appearance works on the current development version and for the upcoming 1.4.0 release.
If you are looking for the old SW5E Light / SW5E Dark / Underworld Alloy theme setting, that workflow is gone. Use Foundry’s own interface appearance settings for Light/Dark chrome.
- what changed when selectable themes were removed
- what branding still remains
- what still uses module CSS for function/layout (especially starships)
- what to check if something looks wrong
Selectable SW5E theme modes (SW5E Light, SW5E Dark, Underworld Alloy, and the old theme-mode setting) are removed in the 1.4.0 feature set.
Supported sheets and dialogs follow normal Foundry / DND5e presentation. Changing Foundry’s Interface or Applications Light/Dark setting is the correct way to change overall chrome appearance.
Core SW5E branding that is not a full theme mode:
- animated Pause display
- lightsaber sheet headers
- approved logos and icons
Starship sheets still use module CSS where it is needed for functional layout (for example AC presentation, Power Dice, Ship’s Stores, System Damage, movement, vitals, and related controls). That is layout support, not a selectable theme skin.
- SW5E Light, SW5E Dark, and Underworld Alloy theme modes
- the theme mode module setting
- theme runtime/hooks and theme-root injection for those modes
- theme-specific LESS/assets for those modes
No game-data migration is required. If an older world still has a stored themeMode value, it is ignored.
“Where did the SW5E theme setting go?”
It was removed. Use stock Foundry appearance settings.
“Why do Pause and lightsaber headers still look SW5E?”
Those branding pieces were intentionally kept.
“My starship sheet still has custom layout CSS.”
That is expected for functional starship controls, not a leftover theme mode.
“I still have themeMode in world settings somewhere.”
It is inert on current development builds that include the 1.4.0 feature set.
- Confirm you are on a build that includes the 1.4.0 appearance model (selectable themes removed).
- Use Foundry’s own Light/Dark settings for chrome.
- Reload the browser if an open sheet still looks stale after an update.
- If a specific control looks broken rather than merely unthemed, continue to Troubleshooting.
