📢 What's New in v1.0.1

This update fixes the menus that opened in complete silence and makes every dialog keyboard-answerable.

🆕 Menu announcements (were silent before)

  • Pause menu now speaks when it opens — press Escape mid-game and hear:
    "Pause Menu. 1: Resume. 2: Save Game. 3: Load Game. 4: Options. 5: Main Menu. 6: Quit Game."
    Press any number key to jump straight to that option.
  • Options, Save, Load, and About screens introduce themselves on open. Save/Load slots announce their saved date and time, or "Empty".
  • Choice menus were verified end-to-end in-game: all options are announced when a decision appears, and arrow keys move through them with spoken feedback.

⌨️ Confirm dialogs are now keyboard-friendly

  • Left Arrow = Yes, Right Arrow = No (with spoken feedback), Escape = cancel.
  • Enter/Space are intentionally inert so an accidental keypress can never quit the game or delete a save.

🔊 Still fixed from the previous update

  • Dialogue reads in order with no skipping or cut-offs after New Game (auto-advancing lines are queued, not cancelled).
  • No double voice — Ren'Py's built-in SAPI self-voicing is disabled while the mod runs.
  • Main menu announces itself at launch with arrow-key navigation and number shortcuts (1–5).

📦 Install

  1. Download Class09-Access-v1.0.1.zip from the Assets below.
  2. Extract the files into your game's game/ folder (Steam: .../steamapps/common/Class of '09/game/).
  3. Launch Class_Of_09.exe with NVDA (or JAWS via Tolk) running.

Class of '09 (and its sequel, Class of '09: The Re-Up) is a critically acclaimed narrative comedy visual novel set in an American high school during the late 2000s.

Unlike traditional visual novels where you read silent text blocks, Class of '09 plays like an interactive audio drama:

  • 100% Full Professional Voice Acting: Every single character (Nicole, Jecka, Emily, Kelly, Jeffrey, Coach Colby, Mr. White, etc.) and every line of dialogue is completely voiced by top-tier voice actors.

🔊 What Does This Mod Do?

While the voice acting makes the story great to listen to, blind and visually impaired players previously could not navigate the silent image menus or know what choices they were picking.

Class of '09 Access bridges every visual element directly to your screen reader:

  • Direct NVDA & Tolk Client: Communicates instantaneously with NVDA through nvdaControllerClient, with native fallback to Tolk (JAWS / SuperNova) and Windows SAPI5.
  • Spoken Branching Decisions: Automatically announces choice menus and options. Arrow keys step through choices with spoken feedback (e.g. "Choice 1 of 2: HUMOR THE SCHOOL TOUR"), and pressing C repeats choices anytime.
  • Live Dialogue & Character Names: Speaks speaker names and text in real-time. Press H to repeat the last line, or D to toggle dialogue TTS (voice acting only vs voice + speech).
  • Accessible Menus & Save Slots: Silent graphical buttons on the main menu are replaced with accessible buttons and numeric shortcuts (1–5). Save and load slots announce date/time and empty status.

  2. Extract the archive into your game's game/ subfolder:
