ServerDeck 1.3.0

Choose a tag to compare

@szabolevi98 szabolevi98 released this 07 Oct 19:11

ServerDeck can now be tried without a server, and has a privacy policy. This version is signed with a new key: updating from 1.2.1 or earlier takes uninstalling the old version first (see below).

  • Try the demo: the empty server list offers four invented servers whose overview, services, containers, logs, commands, terminal and monitoring work like real ones, with no network at all. Nothing in the demo is saved, and Exit goes back to the empty list.
  • Privacy policy: PRIVACY.md, linked from Settings → About. ServerDeck still collects nothing and talks to nothing but your servers.
  • Both in all five languages.

A new signing key

The key earlier versions were signed with was lost, and Android installs an update only when it is signed with the same key. So, once:

  1. Uninstall ServerDeck 1.2.1 or earlier. Its servers, keys and settings go with it.
  2. Install 1.3.0, and add the servers again. A key made on the phone is new too, so its public half has to be put on the servers again (Install the key with a password does it).

From 1.3.0 on, updates install over the old version again.

ServerDeck is now licensed under the GNU AGPL-3.0 instead of MIT. Nothing else changes in the app.

  • New license: GNU Affero General Public License v3. From this version on, ServerDeck may still be used, studied, changed and shared freely, but anyone who distributes a changed version, or offers one over a network, has to publish its source under the same license. Versions up to 1.2.0 stay under MIT.
  • Settings → About says AGPL-3.0 in all five languages.

@szabolevi98 szabolevi98 released this 02 Oct 21:03

ServerDeck now speaks five languages, and the language can be picked in the app.

  • German, Spanish and French, next to Hungarian and English.
  • A language picker under Settings → Language. It starts on The phone's language, as before; pick one of the five to use that instead, whatever the phone is set to. Each language is listed in its own name, so it is easy to find from any of them.
  • Notifications in the same language. Background monitoring sends its "down" and "back up" notifications in the language picked in the app, or the phone's when none is picked.

ServerDeck 1.1.2

@szabolevi98 szabolevi98 released this 28 Sep 10:27

A fix to monitoring: a phone without internet no longer reports its servers down.

  • No false outages when the phone is offline. The background check starts only with a network, but a phone that lost Wi-Fi, or had its network cut while asleep, found every server unreachable and logged an outage, then reported it over once the phone was back online. Now, when a check still cannot reach a server after its retry, ServerDeck opens (and at once closes, sending nothing) a connection to 1.1.1.1, 8.8.8.8 or 9.9.9.9. If none of them answers either, the phone is the one offline: the check is skipped, with no outage and no notification. A refused sign-in or a changed host key comes from the server itself, so those count as before.
  • Check now says the phone is offline instead of checking.
  • False outages can be deleted: a long press on a closed outage on the monitoring page removes it and its failed checks, and uptime is worked out again.

A small fix to 1.1.0: the About card in the settings said ServerDeck 1.0.0. It now shows the version that is actually installed, read from the build.

Everything else is as in 1.1.0: background monitoring with notifications and uptime, and the theme switch.

@szabolevi98 szabolevi98 released this 28 Sep 06:18

ServerDeck 1.1.0 watches your servers in the background and tells you when one goes down, and lets you pick the theme.

  • Background monitoring: per server, every 15 minutes to 6 hours, by signing in over SSH (which fail2ban never counts against you) or by the port only. A failed check is tried again after 30 seconds, so a blip is not an outage. A notification when a server goes down and why, when it is back and how long it was down, and a separate alarm when a server shows a different host key.
  • The monitoring page: every monitored server's state, last check and latency, its last 40 checks, uptime over 24 hours, 7 and 30 days, the outages with when, how long and why, and a button to check everything now.
  • Theme: system, light or dark, from an icon on the server list or in the settings.

Monitoring by signing in needs the server opened once in the app and its host key accepted first. Android runs background work at most every 15 minutes, and only with a network; battery saver can delay it.

@szabolevi98 szabolevi98 released this 27 Sep 19:51

The first release of ServerDeck: your Linux servers, from your phone, over plain SSH. No agent on the server, no port to open, no account anywhere.

  • Overview: CPU, memory and disk rings, a three-minute chart, network, load, disks, uptime
  • Services: systemd units and Docker containers, with status, journal, and restart, reload, stop, start
  • Logs: the system journal, a service's journal or a file, followed live, with filters
  • Commands: saved ones a tap away, one-off ones, output as it arrives, and the exit code
  • Terminal: an interactive shell with the keys a phone lacks
  • Security: Ed25519 keys made on the phone or imported, host key checks, secrets in the Keystore or Keychain, an optional app lock
  • Hungarian and English
