How to use Stasher
Just joking! Here are some ways you can use Stasher to your advantage!
Here you see I have two tab groups! And they are very important. They are so important in fact that I'd love to save them so that, even if I close my browser, they are not accidentally gone!
When you want to focus, or just stash something you have been working on, you can do as follows;
On the right, you can pin your extension to have the extension always easy to access, and just... click it!
What it does depends on what you are looking at;
-
If you are inside a tab group, Stasher will save that group, including its title, color, and tabs.
-
If you are inside a normal, ungrouped tab, Stasher will save the ungrouped tabs in that window. Pinned tabs, empty new tabs, and Stasher itself stay right where they are. We do not need to stash Stasher inside Stasher. That feels dangerous.
-
If you select two or more tabs in the browser first, Stasher will save exactly those tabs. You can select them with
Ctrl,Cmd, orShift, depending on your browser and operating system. If they all belong to the same tab group, Stasher will remember that group's title and color too!
Here's how the manager looks after stashing a few of these;
The manager opens automatically and stays pinned so it is easy to find again.
Super easy! Let me show you;
There are two ways to recover them. Or more, you may find more!
-
Directly click on the relevant link. It will not remove it from the Stash, and you can easily view it. This is a good way to temporarily view the status of something without having to unstash then stash again.
-
Click the restore icon on the right side of the Stash. This will recover the whole thing. If it was a tab group, Stasher also restores the title, color, and all of the associated tabs along with it. Cool!
Restoring the whole Stash removes its saved copy only after everything opens successfully. If Stasher cannot finish that cleanup, it keeps the saved copy and tells you instead of making your tabs disappear into the void.
Stashed a truly unreasonable number of tabs? I respect it.
-
Use the search box at the top to find anything by the Stash name, tab title, or URL.
-
Click the arrow beside a Stash to collapse or expand its links.
-
Click the pencil beside its name to edit the title or color. Press
Enterto save, orEscapeif you immediately regret everything.
This just makes sense. Hence we implemented it;
- If you press the delete icon on a Stash, it will delete the Stash itself and all the tabs associated with it.
Note: You can recover it back if you're quick enough! There's a pop up that appears at the bottom when you do so. Just need to click
UNDO, and then it will recover for you! No worries about that! See image below;
- If you hover over a link on the right-most part of the Stasher manager, you will see an
xicon pop up. If you click that, it will remove ONLY the URL you selected without removing the whole Stash. This is super useful for cleanup without having to unstash the whole thing.
- If you click on
Delete All Stashesit will go nuclear, but will give you a safety net pop up in case you accidentally clicked on it, see image below;
The buttons at the top-right of the manager let you export everything to a Stasher JSON backup and import it again later.
Everything stays local. Stasher does not send your saved tabs anywhere, and it keeps working without an internet connection. Obviously the websites themselves may be less cooperative about that part.
Select a Tab, Right-Click it, then click Stash this tab context menu. This will stash... the tab selected!
You can assign a keyboard shortcut to Stash current tabs from your browser's extension shortcut page. By default it is Alt+S!
If you want to modify it, in Chrome and most Chromium browsers go to Settings --> Keyboard Shortcuts, then find Stasher, and choose whatever combination your fingers enjoy.
Note: You can also find it by copy pasting
chrome://extensions/shortcutson the URL bar.
Said shortcut follows the same rules as clicking the Stasher icon: selected tabs first, otherwise the current tab group, otherwise the ungrouped tabs in the window.
Hope this helps, and I hope you enjoy using Stasher!
