5.7 ATAK-Plugin-Atmosphere-0.19--5.7.0-civ-release.apk
5.8 ATAK-Plugin-Atmosphere-0.19--5.8.0-civ-release.apk

What's new since 0.16:

  • Radar plays its last two hours as a loop (Play beside Live on the time strip) to show which way storm cells move, and has a Transparency slider; it starts 20% see-through (#7).
  • Radar and Wind can be on together; the time strip follows the one switched on last (#6).
  • Wind, Smoke, Rain and Waves move to the newest model run on their own while left on, so every device shows the same forecast.
  • Public Safety Power Shutoffs from Cal OES, SCE and SDG&E: areas shut off by utility, circuits the utility is watching, customers out and when power is expected back, with labels that group as the map zooms out. The layer asks again to be allowed.
  • Rain Gauges and Rain Totals get the county, RAWS and airport gauges and the past radar from takwerx's server, which keeps their hours for 45 days. Both layers ask again to be allowed.
  • Weather Stations, River Gauges, Buoys and the Spot page measure from the point picked in the pane's top row; each page's map switch is a small "Map ON" on its heading line; layers hidden by the zoom say so.
  • Fire Danger waits longer for a slow server.

5.7 ATAK-Plugin-Atmosphere-0.16--5.7.0-civ-release.apk
5.8 ATAK-Plugin-Atmosphere-0.16--5.8.0-civ-release.apk

New since 0.14

  • Rain for any time: one Totals button on Rain Totals and on Rain Gauges picks the last 24 hours, 3, 7 or 30 days, since October 1 (the water year), since January 1, one day, or Before a date and time: the rain in the hours before a moment you pick, such as when a fire started.
  • Rain Gauges are the measured gauges only: USGS, county flood control, RAWS and other agency gauges, airports and NWS observers. No volunteer gauges. A gauge that missed part of the time, or disagrees with every gauge around it, is left off and counted on the status line. Each dot is colored in the Rain Totals key for the same time, so it reads against the shading under it.
  • Rain Totals draws past hours from the radar archive for Before a date and time, and where the NWS has not produced its 7-day analysis yet, the radar estimate for the same 7 days fills it in.
  • Rain Gauges page: one list of the gauges in the map's view, most rain first or closest, with miles and Go to; the forecast office's rainfall report opens under it as a colored table.
  • SAWTI: the page and the map show the same day, picking a day turns the layer on, and the page's zone is outlined on the map while the page is open.
  • Every page with a map layer starts with that layer's switch.
  • Filter counts on the Spot Weather Forecast and Storm Reports pages follow the map as it moves.

5.8 ATAK-Plugin-Atmosphere-0.14--5.8.0-civ-release.apk

New since 0.12

  • Storms group: Storm Reports (every report the NWS offices logged in the last 72 hours, by family, the type and size in the pill) and Tornado Paths (the tracks survey teams walked, in EF colors, with the survey behind a tap). A Storm Reports page lists both: nationwide, near your point, on the map or by state; newest or closest; any mix of types.
  • Debris Flow (Rain and rivers): every fire the USGS has assessed in the last three years as a marker; a fire's page shows or hides its perimeter and stream basins, filled Low, Moderate or High, with likelihood and volume behind a tap.
  • Earthquakes (Ground group): the USGS feed worldwide, circles by magnitude and age, a past-hour window, ShakeMap contours for the largest, a quake's page with the USGS link.
  • Rain that fell: Rain Totals as a picture (the NWS radar estimate for 1 h to 3 days, the gauge-corrected analysis for 7 days, with a transparency slider); Rain Gauges from USGS, the CoCoRaHS volunteer network and the forecast office's own rainfall report, each gauge named with its inches; a Rain Gauges page with the report sorted most rain first or closest, and Go to on every placed gauge.
  • Synopsis on the Forecast page: the forecaster's Area Forecast Discussion for the office covering your point, the other sections a tap away.
  • Fuel Moisture (Fire group): the National Fuel Moisture Database's samples for the state under the map, live fuels on the chaparral thresholds and dead fuels on their timelag breaks, every fuel sampled at a site behind a tap.
  • Wind heat map: the speed the streaks are drawn from as a colored field under them, one switch.
  • Layers page: groups fold on their heading, with the group's icon and a green count when a layer under it is on.
  • Web addresses on a marker's page open in the browser. Section headings in one style throughout.

Atmosphere 0.12

Choose a tag to compare

@takwerx takwerx released this 11 Oct 17:44

Atmosphere 0.12 fixes the Hurricanes layer for storms the National Hurricane Center has stopped forecasting.

Fixed

  • A storm with no forecast map still shows where it is (#5). Once a storm is post-tropical or past its final advisory, NHC stops publishing its cone, track and forecast points, but keeps listing it for a while. The layer listed Isaias and Rachel and drew nothing for them, which read as a broken layer. Such a storm now gets a marker at its current position (when Forecast positions is on), Go to lands on it, and the Hurricanes block says "No forecast map from NHC for Isaias and Rachel". A storm with a forecast, like Simon, draws as before.

Atmosphere 0.11

Choose a tag to compare

@takwerx takwerx released this 07 Oct 00:09

Atmosphere 0.11 adds fire danger by area and California's utility weather stations.

New

  • Fire Danger — the Energy Release Component (ERC) each GACC charts on its fuels page, for every Predictive Service Area in the lower 48, shaded by percentile in the Forest Service's own classes. Observed (yesterday) or Forecast (today). Tap an area's name for its ERC and Burning Index and its GACC's own ERC chart, which opens on the whole screen to pinch and zoom.
  • Fire danger on every fire weather zone — a zone's page gives the ERC of the area it is in, with a button to the chart.
  • Utility weather stations — in California, the stations SCE, SDG&E, PG&E and HPWREN run (from Cal OES), drawn on a slate disc beside the blue fire weather stations, with their own switch and zoom. Their wind is a one-to-two-minute average and reads higher than a RAWS beside them; their record says so.
  • Layers button in the top row: straight to the Layers page from any page.

Changed

  • Labels stay level when you turn the map; a station's wind barb still turns, because it is a direction.
  • Smoke is the same forecast at every zoom, so it keeps its shape as you zoom out.
  • Fire weather zones are outlined in purple; SAWTI's No Rating zones in blue, and SAWTI's labels start with "SAWTI-".
  • A reading too wide for its column in the forecast is drawn smaller instead of cut off.
  • The icons Atmosphere draws are kept in ATAK's private storage, out of the phone's photo gallery (#2). Updating clears the old ones by itself.

Atmosphere 0.9

Choose a tag to compare

@takwerx takwerx released this 02 Oct 03:52

Atmosphere 0.9 adds three fire layers and a new page.

New

  • SAWTI — the US Forest Service's Santa Ana Wildfire Threat Index for its four Southern California zones (LA-Ventura, Orange-Inland Empire, San Diego, Santa Barbara), colored by level for each of four days. A No Rating zone is a cyan outline; a rated zone is filled in its level's color.
  • The SAWTI page — the Forest Service site's forecast page in the pane: the zone you are reading (or any of the four), the four days, the Threat Level, Wind Strength and Fuel Moisture gauges, the forecaster's words, the recommended actions with the county links, and every zone and day side by side. Tap a zone on the map to open it.
  • Lightning — NOAA's lightning strike density: strikes in each 5-mile square in 15 minutes, from yellow to deep purple, the newest frame with its time and age. It arrives 10 to 25 minutes after the strikes and is not a reason to call it safe outside.
  • PSPS — California's Public Safety Power Shutoffs as Cal OES reports them from PG&E, SCE and SDG&E: counties warned, power off, power back on. It says when it cannot vouch for the status, and what it does not cover.

Atmosphere 0.7

Choose a tag to compare

@takwerx takwerx released this 01 Oct 02:19

Atmosphere is the weather on the ATAK map for fire and hazmat crews, from public weather services, read on your device and kept on your device.

What changed in 0.7

  • Fire Weather Zones. The National Weather Service's fire weather zones on the map, each with its zone number, starred zones in yellow. A zone under a Red Flag Warning is filled pink and one under a Fire Weather Watch beige, the colors NWS uses. Two zoom settings decide when the zones and their numbers draw.
  • A zone's fire weather planning forecast. A new page shows the zone you are reading, the zones under a Red Flag Warning or Fire Weather Watch anywhere, a search by zone number (CAZ548, CA548, 548) or name, and your starred zones. Tap one for the office's Fire Weather Planning Forecast for that zone, as written, with the office's discussion folded underneath.
  • Spot Weather Forecast sorts Newest or Closest first and filters by type (Wildfire, Prescribed Fire, Marine, HAZMAT, Search and Rescue, Other), with counts. The type applies to the map too. The map key shows the real icons, types beside status colors.
  • A tap opens what you tapped. A zone, spot request, river gauge or buoy opens its page; anything else Atmosphere draws opens its details. No radial menu on Atmosphere's items (#1).
  • Map center follows the map. The forecast and the fire weather zone are read again when the map stops moving.
  • Layer and page names in Title Case: Spot Weather Forecast, Fire Weather Zones, Weather Stations, River Gauges.
  • Fixed: All off left the layers that were on; a picture layer (radar, satellite, rain, smoke) turned off left its last frame on the map; Go to on a hurricane whose cone crosses the date line went to Africa; river gauge, buoy and snow station icons grew when their readings came on.
  • The user guide and manual cover all of it, with new pictures.

Atmosphere 0.5

Choose a tag to compare

@takwerx takwerx released this 28 Sep 18:03

Atmosphere is the weather on the ATAK map for fire and hazmat crews, from public weather services, read on your device and kept on your device.

What changed in 0.5

  • The forecast needs nothing set up. It reads from the National Weather Service as soon as Atmosphere opens, in US units (°F, mph, feet).
  • Forecast settings is one window. Pick where the forecast comes from with one tap: NWS (United States), or Open-Meteo for anywhere else. What to show is right there too. Position sent is gone: the point sent for a forecast is always rounded to about 100 m.
  • A weather service file dropped on the phone can no longer take over a built-in service. A file that names a built-in service but different servers is ignored and reported when Atmosphere opens.
  • The user guide and the manual describe the new first run, with new pictures.

Atmosphere 0.4

Choose a tag to compare

@takwerx takwerx released this 28 Sep 14:07

Atmosphere is the weather on the ATAK map for fire and hazmat crews, from public weather services, read on your device and kept on your device.

What changed in 0.4

  • No more freeze at ATAK start. With the Air quality layer off, ATAK could stop answering for up to 20 seconds while it started, and a touch in that time brought up "ATAK isn't responding". Fixed.
  • One button to allow the forecast. The first time, the Forecast page says the weather service is not allowed yet, with an Allow NWS (United States) button right under it. Tap it, then Allow. The separate Allowed services list is gone; choosing a service under Forecast settings, Weather service asks the same question.
  • The user guide and the manual describe the new first run, with new pictures.

Atmosphere 0.2

Choose a tag to compare

@takwerx takwerx released this 28 Sep 05:22

Atmosphere is the weather on the ATAK map for fire and hazmat crews, from public weather services, read on your device and kept on your device.

What it does

  • Forecast at a point: your position, the map center, a tapped point or a favorite. The numbers a briefing asks for: temperature, humidity, the 20-foot wind and gusts, mixing height, transport wind, wet bulb globe temperature, chance of rain; the next hours as a line and a table; the days ahead; sunrise, sunset and the moon.
  • Radar over the United States and Canada from the national weather services, and everywhere else from RainViewer's composite of the world's public radars, with the last two to three hours on a time strip.
  • Satellite, infrared or visible, where no radar reaches.
  • Forecast wind, rain, smoke and waves on one time strip, five days ahead, each with a reading "Here".
  • Fire weather and flash flood outlooks, days 1 to 3.
  • River gauges, flooded ground and streams running high, now and at the worst of the next five days.
  • Buoys with tides, currents and the marine forecast; the beach forecast; sea temperature; hurricanes with track, cone and wind fields.
  • Avalanche zones, snow stations and snow depth.
  • Weather stations against their zone's Red Flag criteria, and spot forecasts with a helper to request one.

Every layer asks once before it talks to the network and names the server. Nothing is published to a server or to anyone else's map. Warnings, watches and advisories are left to the IPAWS Alerts plugin.
