What's new in 3.4.0
Cloud keys that fail over. Add as many keys per provider as you like. Wisper rotates to the next one automatically when it hits a rate limit or a server error, and skips a key that comes back unauthorized instead of failing your dictation.
Real platform parity. macOS is a first-class citizen now, not a port. The overlay, tray, launch-at-login, history, in-app updates, and the paste-back flow all behave the same on Linux, Windows, and macOS. deb, rpm, AppImage, the Windows installer, and the macOS DMG all update in-app from the same stable channel, with signature-verified updates.
History that adds up. A new daily_stats rollup backs the Today tile, and lifetime totals now read from counters rather than stored rows, so trimming, clearing, or deleting entries can no longer make your counts go down.
Wayland paste-back, documented and smoothed. GNOME Wayland gets a bundled companion extension for returning to your origin window, the ydotool path is documented end to end, and the built-in tool reports an overlay error when recording fails to start instead of failing silently.
Refreshed site and docs. The website now has per-OS setup that auto-detects your system, a rewritten end-user README, a contributor guide, and a dedicated Wayland paste guide.

macOS: Gatekeeper will block the first launch
The macOS build is unsigned and unnotarized. We do not have an Apple Developer ID, so Apple cannot verify it, and Gatekeeper will stop it on first launch. This is expected, not a broken download.
Step 1, try this first: open the DMG, drag Wisper to Applications, then right-click the app and choose Open. Click through the confirmation. After that first explicit open, macOS remembers the app and launches it normally forever, including after you move it around.
Step 2, only if right-click Open does not appear: open Terminal and clear the quarantine attribute yourself:
xattr -cr /Applications/Wisper.appThen launch it normally.
Step 3, then grant the two permissions macOS requires. Wisper asks on first run, and you can also set them by hand in System Settings → Privacy & Security:
- Microphone. Without it, recording captures silence rather than failing loudly.
- Accessibility. Without it, the global hotkey never fires and nothing pastes.
One macOS quirk worth knowing: after an update, the hotkey sometimes stops working. Remove Wisper with the minus button in Accessibility, add it again with plus, turn it on, and relaunch. That is a known macOS permission quirk, not a bug in the app.
The same steps live permanently in the website setup section (which auto-detects your OS) and in the README's macOS notes, so you can find them again after installing.
Review the source before you run it if you want to: this is open source, MIT licensed, and the full code is on GitHub.
