2.5.0 - introducing Project Doctor
LocalWrap v2.5.0
LocalWrap 2.5.0 focuses on trust in the first few minutes: importing a project, starting it, seeing what is happening, and knowing what to do when something does not respond.
Since v2.3.0, LocalWrap now has guided project import, inline validation, clearer runtime states, better logs, improved tray actions, a built-in sample project, and the new Project Doctor.
Highlights
- Added Project Doctor, an always-visible diagnostic panel above logs.
- Added guided project import: pick a folder first, then LocalWrap suggests name, command, port, and URL.
- Added inline validation for directories, commands, ports, local URLs, port mismatches, and busy ports.
- Added clearer runtime states: starting, ready, running but not responding, failed, stopped, and stopping.
- Added safer troubleshooting actions: find a free port, sync URL to port, reveal directory, reveal command, and copy diagnostics.
- Added a dependency-free sample project under
examples/sample-projectfor demos and smoke testing.
Project Doctor
Project Doctor checks the things users usually wonder about when a project will not start cleanly:
- Project directory
- Launch command
- Dependency folder presence
- Port availability
- Local URL validity
- Process start
- Readiness response
It also keeps a short timeline of recent events, including preflight checks, command start, readiness waiting, ready state, timeout, process errors, and exits.
Doctor actions are intentionally safe. LocalWrap can suggest fixes and update fields, but it does not run installs, Docker commands, plugins, cloud sync, or arbitrary shell commands.
First-Run Improvements
The empty state is now action-first: users are guided toward Add Project instead of facing a dense blank form.
When importing a folder, LocalWrap inspects package.json, prefers common scripts like dev, start, preview, and serve, then fills in useful defaults. Save and Start stay disabled until required fields are valid.
Changing the port now updates the generated URL automatically unless the user has intentionally edited the URL.
Logs And Runtime Clarity
Logs now include controls to clear, copy, and reveal the command. Runtime state now preserves useful session details such as last exit code, start/stop timestamps, readiness messages, and diagnosis state.
Readiness timeouts are now shown as “running but not responding” instead of being treated as a simple failure.
Tray Improvements
The tray menu is more useful for day-to-day project launching:
- Open all ready projects
- Stop all running projects
- Per-running-project controls
- Existing update, about, and quit actions remain unchanged
Demo Project
This release adds examples/sample-project, a dependency-free local app that can be imported into LocalWrap to test project inspection, start/stop/restart, readiness, logs, Project Doctor, and browser opening without needing another repo.
Reliability And Maintenance
- Existing v2.3 project configs remain compatible; no migration is required.
- Privileged actions remain IPC-only.
- URLs remain restricted to local
http/httpstargets. - Command execution remains allowlisted.
- Test coverage was expanded across project inspection, validation, lifecycle state, Project Doctor, renderer behavior, preload IPC, and the sample project.
- CI actions and Electron/Jest
