v0.4.0 — It’s all downhill from here
FreeSki is here. Arcade now has fourteen games in one native window.
- Find your feet. A 1,200-metre Practice slope with carving, braking, ramps and crash recovery.
- Keep going. An endless mountain, optional yeti pursuit and fast mode. Press F. See how that goes.
- Race the gates. Five Slalom courses, local medals and five-second penalties for missed gates.
- Come back later. Runs save locally and reopen paused. Your records, preferences and course unlocks stay with you.
Steer with A/D, the arrow keys or the mouse. Brake with S, Down or the right mouse button. Ramps launch automatically; Esc pauses and Ctrl+H returns to Arcade.
Thanks to MayberryDT for bringing FreeSki to Arcade.
All thirteen existing games remain, including bundled Stockfish for computer Chess. This release also tidies up focus handling, stops Chess/Scram/Invaders audio workers when leaving a game, and keeps normal Pinball shutdown responsive.
Get skiing
Download the x86_64 package and SHA256SUMS below. Close Arcade and back up your saves before upgrading.
sha256sum --ignore-missing --check SHA256SUMS &&
sudo pacman -U ./omarchy-retro-arcade-0.4.0-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst
omarchy-retro-arcade --game freeskiYou can also open Arcade from your app launcher. omarchy-retro-arcade --version reports Omarchy Arcade 0.4.0.
Saves, rollback and build checks
Existing save locations are retained. FreeSki saves to $XDG_STATE_HOME/omarchy-retro-arcade/freeski.json, normally ~/.local/state/omarchy-retro-arcade/freeski.json. Invalid or newer-format saves remain untouched until an explicit archive/reset. Save locations and migration guidance.
Pacman manages updates. To roll back, close Arcade and run sudo pacman -U /path/to/previous.pkg.tar.zst. Keep your matching backup and newer saves: downgrading does not reverse save migrations. v0.3.0 does not include FreeSki. Uninstall with sudo pacman -R omarchy-retro-arcade; retain the state directories to keep progress.
The exact release commit, 7d6e5f42b2e451ea08649eca577675990e58e9d8, passed all three CI jobs: native, Arch and Tanks engine. Coverage includes fourteen-game switching, FreeSki controls/resume/layouts, installed-package checks and save preservation across a same-package reinstall.
On 21 September, Tom tested the candidate on his Omarchy XPS and reported that it “works really well”, approving release. The exact installed Omarchy version and individual test cases were not recorded. Historical detailed FreeSki playtests remain in the repository. The full old-version upgrade/rollback matrix and aarch64 remain unverified.
The five attached files are the original verified CI bundle. BUILD.txt identifies the source commit, tree and workflow; SHA256SUMS covers the package, corresponding source, build identity and build-time notes. The corresponding-source archive includes Arcade, pinned Stockfish source and its evaluation network. All checksums were independently verified before publication. RELEASE-NOTES.md preserves the preparation-time notes; this release page records the final publication status.
FreeSki uses original artwork, courses, sounds and creature design; no proprietary SkiFree assets are bundled. This is a community app targeting Omarchy 4 / Hyprland. Inclusion in the official package repository is a separate submission.
Omarchy Arcade v0.3.0
Let’s Hunt for Mines
Minesweeper is here. Arcade now has thirteen games in one native window.
- Three ways to lose an afternoon. Beginner (9×9, 10 mines), Intermediate (16×16, 40 mines) and Expert (30×16, 99 mines). Your first reveal and its neighbours are safe. Empty areas open automatically, with flags and chording for the rest.
- Pick up where you left off. Your board, timer and records save locally. Reopened games start paused, so the clock waits for you.
- It fits your desktop. The board, counters and dialogs follow your theme. Change the palette or monospace font while playing and Minesweeper updates with it.
Play with the mouse or keyboard: arrows to move, Space to reveal, F to flag, C to chord and Esc to pause. Ctrl+H takes you back to Arcade.
All twelve existing games are still here, with offline play and bundled Stockfish for computer Chess. FreeSki is planned for v0.4.0.
Minesweeper is silent, and some boards need a guess.
Get playing
Download the x86_64 package and SHA256SUMS from this release. Close Arcade and back up your saves before upgrading.
sha256sum --ignore-missing --check SHA256SUMS
sudo pacman -U ./omarchy-retro-arcade-0.3.0-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst
omarchy-retro-arcade --game minesweeperYou can also launch Arcade from the desktop menu. omarchy-retro-arcade --version reports Omarchy Arcade 0.3.0.
Saves, rollback and build checks
Existing games keep their save locations and schemas. Minesweeper saves to $XDG_STATE_HOME/omarchy-retro-arcade/minesweeper.json, normally ~/.local/state/omarchy-retro-arcade/minesweeper.json. Invalid or newer-format saves are left untouched. Pinball saves settings and records, not unfinished tables. See save locations.
Pacman handles updates. To roll back, close Arcade and run sudo pacman -U /path/to/previous.pkg.tar.zst. Keep the matching save backup and newer files: downgrading does not undo save-format changes. v0.2.0 ignores Minesweeper's save. To uninstall, run sudo pacman -R omarchy-retro-arcade; keep the state directories to retain progress.
The release commit passed all three CI jobs: engine, native and Arch. Checks cover thirteen-game switching, mouse layouts, Minesweeper keyboard controls, pause/save protection, live theme/font reload, package installation and save preservation across a same-package reinstall.
Live Omarchy/Wayland testing, the full old-version upgrade matrix, collection-wide audio/gameplay acceptance and aarch64 support remain unverified. This x86_64 release targets Omarchy 4 / Hyprland and is a community app.
BUILD.txt identifies the source commit, tree and build run. The corresponding-source archive includes Arcade, pinned Stockfish source and its evaluation network. Package, source and build identity were checked against SHA256SUMS before publication. The attached RELEASE-NOTES.md preserves the original build-time notes; this page contains the revised release copy.
v0.2.0 - the Tanks are Coming!!
Omarchy Arcade v0.2.0
Twelve games in one native Omarchy app: Circuit Pinball, Solitaire, Scram, Invaders, Chess, Stack, Snake, Bubble, Blast, 2048, Shatter and Tanks. Offline play needs no account, and the Arch package includes Stockfish for computer Chess.
- Tanks: solo Easy/Normal AI and local two-player artillery, destructible hills, wind and three weapons. Original sound, recoil, animated impacts, falling tanks, damage feedback and reduced effects. Saves preserve shots in flight and terrain settling.
- Circuit Pinball: type and edit high-score names, paste reliably with Ctrl+V, and retain UTF-8 names across restarts. Thanks to CanadaApollo6 for #38.
- 2048 and Shatter join the earlier nine-game collection. Existing game credits, artwork notices and save locations are retained.
Download the x86_64 player package and SHA256SUMS from the assets below, then run:
sha256sum --ignore-missing --check SHA256SUMS
sudo pacman -U ./omarchy-retro-arcade-0.2.0-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst
omarchy-retro-arcade --versionClose Arcade before upgrading and back up existing saves. Pinball preserves records/settings, not unfinished tables. Pacman manages updates. Downgrading a package does not reverse save-schema changes: retain the matching backup and old package.
The exact tagged commit passed engine, native and Arch CI, including twelve-game switching, high-score paste regressions, installation and same-package save-preservation checks. This is Linux/Xvfb evidence; live Omarchy/Wayland audio and gameplay acceptance, old-version migration coverage and aarch64 binaries remain unverified. Target: Omarchy 4 / Hyprland. Community app; not an official Omarchy package.
BUILD.txt records the source commit and build run. SHA256SUMS covers the complete checked asset set; the corresponding-source archive includes application source, pinned Stockfish source and its network. The bundled RELEASE-NOTES.md records preparation-time evidence; this description records publication status.
