Open source practice and community
Deployed to mockinterview.live on October 4, 2026. The API and website were promoted together after isolated staging acceptance. This remains a public beta.
What changed
- Open source project homepage, documentation, cross-platform local launcher, contribution/community links, maintainer page and MIT licensing with third-party attribution preserved.
- One platform-funded interview per rolling 24 hours; unlimited validated personal-key practice with supported providers, subject to provider charges and one active interview.
- Custom interviews from profession, goal, experience, questions and structure.
- Feedback-based beta applications, private template requests and an owner-only administrator portal.
- Durable interview metrics and explicit optional analytics sharing for local web/mobile practice. Unavailable optional uploads do not interrupt practice. No transcripts or audio are uploaded by optional analytics.
Validation
All 11 pull-request checks passed, including Go race tests, web tests/build, mobile checks, dependency/secret scanning, CodeQL and local prerequisites on macOS, Windows and Linux. The web suite contains 167 tests; the mobile suite contains 12 tests. Production JavaScript dependencies have zero reported npm vulnerabilities after targeted updates.
Seventeen staging acceptance groups passed using synthetic accounts. These included a real Gemini 2.5 Flash custom interview and scored report, saved-work reconnection, answer deduplication, quota and personal-key checks, beta approval/revocation, template requests, consented analytics/idempotency/deletion, owner authorization, export, account deletion and token revocation. A bounded native-voice provider test received opening audio without errors. It did not use a microphone or assess speech recognition and human conversation quality. Synthetic fixtures were removed.
A private application-only PostgreSQL backup was restored into an isolated database before migrations 0013/0014 were applied. Existing row totals and the runtime-error backfill were verified; production data was preserved. The shared Cloud SQL instance was not restored or recreated. Private data, credentials, backup files and authenticated test artifacts are not release assets.
After promotion, all 27 checked HTML routes and 29 referenced JavaScript assets were byte-identical to the verified production preview. API readiness confirmed real Gemini configuration and the expected build; policy versions matched 2026-10-04.1, the catalog returned 185 scenarios, anonymous admin requests were rejected and allowed/denied CORS origins behaved correctly. All 13 linked GitHub source documents matched the release source. The live browser rendered correctly with no console errors or warnings in the inspected routes. A bounded post-release log check at 17:41 UTC found no ERROR-or-higher or HTTP 5xx entries for the new revision; the scoring queue was empty.

The merge and web build commits have identical full Git trees. The API tree is identical across all three commits; the later source adds web dependency patches and publication notes. Production reused the tested immutable image and cloned the exact verified web version without a rebuild. Existing runtime settings and pinned secret versions were preserved; only the image, source marker and recreated preview CORS origin changed.
Rollback and remaining limits
Paired rollback: API revision mockinterview-api-00052-goc and Firebase version b8a1329cd717263b (previous live release 1789421477501000). Retain the additive schema and allow existing WebSockets to finish. Never restore the shared SQL instance for a routine application rollback.
Native signed desktop installers and app-store publishing are not included. Local setup runs the web application from source. Owner access must be provisioned through the operator CLI after email verification; no shared admin password is seeded. Production account creation, mail delivery and human voice conversation were not repeated during this release; the real-provider acceptance used isolated staging.
One unpatched braces advisory remains confined to the reviewed ESLint development dependency chain. The audit exception is exact, fails closed for runtime paths and other advisories, and expires November 4, 2026. See web/scripts/security-audit.mjs. This is separate from the zero-vulnerability production dependency audit.
Beta 4: optional interview-tool comparisons
The public beta now includes an optional comparison with other interview-practice tools after the six required check-in questions. Users can type tools they have tried, compare the experience, and explain what worked better or worse. The section can be skipped, cleared or edited.
Administrators can review private comparison suggestions and separate aggregate counts/rates or export comparison CSV without free text. Saved answers are included in owner export and removed with account/session deletion. Existing six-question behavior, quotas and consent versions remain unchanged.
Verified: 94 web tests, full PostgreSQL API race suite, vet, lint/types/build, protected CI/security checks, staging browser and API behavior, account deletion, fresh-backup migration rehearsal and public deployment checks. Existing production data was preserved.

See release validation for artifacts and rollback, and contribution guidance to help improve it. This remains a beta; scoring calibration, practitioner review and documented owner/legal decisions remain open.
Required interview check-ins and private feedback metrics
Required interview check-ins and private feedback metrics are live at https://mockinterview.live.
- Six questions cover ease of use, interviewer realism, subject-specific probing, selected-level challenge, report actionability and technical interruptions. Subject wording covers all 143 current scenarios across 35 domains.
- A newly started and ended attempt requires answers before the next interview starts. Every item allows an unrated answer; report unread/unavailable responses are explicit. Comments and transcript inspection permission are optional. Reports, history, recovery, export and deletion remain available, and legacy attempts/unused reservations are exempt.
- Saved responses are owner-scoped, editable, versioned and idempotent. The private administrator dashboard provides completion, distributions, rated/unrated counts, seven grouping choices, paginated suggestions and aggregate JSON/CSV exports.
- Account export and session/account deletion include structured feedback. Updated terms/privacy version 2026-09-10.1 explains the product-improvement purpose. Mandatory feedback does not enroll users in research.
- History now displays the correct local time. API release archives preserve source readability under restrictive caller permissions.
The release passed automated Go/PostgreSQL race, web and security checks; bounded local/staging browser and API checks; response preservation, deletion and token-revocation checks; an actual private-backup restore; and final production health, access, CORS, asset, retention and data-preservation checks. No paid provider/email call or production test account was created for this update. Existing production history was preserved without a retroactive feedback backlog.
Both API and web were built from 13a7619. The tested image is sha256:7c005eb8d5c900aafe2233b9ad98646c6bf1d05836ac2e2dc7dba3105cfdc114, production API revision mockinterview-api-00044-sib, Firebase version 4fde692b40426e74. This tag includes documentation; runtime source trees match the tested build.

The existing owner account still needs email verification followed by an authorized administrator grant before using the dashboard. No bypass was applied. Scenario calibration, accessibility review and the documented owner/legal decisions remain open. These user-experience measures do not prove learning gains, scoring accuracy, job readiness or worldwide legal compliance.
Privacy controls and license notices
Hosted privacy and policy controls are live at https://mockinterview.live.
- Require an explicit 18+ declaration and current terms/privacy review before hosted AI practice; keep history, export, recovery and deletion accessible to existing users.
- Add separate voice-processing and personal Gemini paid-project declarations, clearer resume/feedback disclosures, and deletion of saved resumes and standalone reviews.
- Retire legacy camera-analysis ingestion and publish preserved browser dependency/font license notices, including a verified OFL font replacement.
- Document a sourced US/international applicability assessment, privacy operations procedures, exact deployment evidence and rollback instructions.
Validation includes the Go race suite with isolated PostgreSQL, 61 web tests, five notice/font tests, production builds, required CI/security checks, staged browser flows, backup/migration restoration, and production policy/assets/data-preservation checks. No additional paid interview was run for this policy update; the prior real interview acceptance and its limitations remain documented.
This remains a public beta. Operator identity/location and intended countries/audience, provider contracts/transfers, retention decisions, older question rights, and relevant legal/accessibility review remain open. This release does not certify worldwide legal compliance or error-free interviews.
Deployment: API source 58280bab2d55c1047c7e388ba72c1ddefe51befe, revision mockinterview-api-00041-cic; web source 061b56bc6b26ab33baf092a9679f123a60b92764, Firebase version b8a9451c163cb83d. The release tag also includes the deployment documentation; runtime trees are unchanged.

Public beta: redesigned interview practice
The redesigned mockinterview is available as a public beta at mockinterview.live.
- Choose from 143 community-preview scenarios across engineering, product, business, and professional interviews. Configure level, time, challenge, and interviewer style.
- Practice with native voice or text, optional camera self-view, original animated interviewer portraits, and saved workspaces. Review transcript-based feedback and share optional product/interviewer feedback.
- Hosted accounts receive one funded interview every rolling seven days. Personal API keys support additional practice, with one total hosted start every rolling 24 hours. Local installations support unlimited practice using your own provider.
- Email verification and password recovery use the verified app domain. Account export/deletion, encrypted temporary personal keys, durable report jobs, and privacy-safe diagnostics are included.
Run locally · Contribute an interview · Deployment and rollback
Automated API/database/web tests, dependency and secret scans, CodeQL, controlled real-provider staging checks, account-email delivery, a successful production text interview with 14 verified citations, and live deployment checks are recorded in the release validation.
This is an early learning tool. Community scenarios still need practitioner review and scoring calibration; feedback is not a hiring decision. Native voice depends on a preview provider model. A controlled feedback attempt required a successful retry, and new-sender mail may reach spam. Full browser/device, load, and human-microphone coverage remains ongoing.
