What's New
Terminals Keep Running When the App Closes
- Local terminals are now held by a background process instead of the app. Quitting Termdock, a crash, or installing an update no longer stops builds, tests, or agents running in them. Available on macOS and Windows; nothing to configure.
- On reopen, terminals that are still running return to their tabs with their screen and output; ones that have ended are rebuilt from their last screen.
- When you quit, Termdock tells you how many terminals will keep running in the background.
- Background terminals can be taken over from the background panel to type into them again.
- Only your own account can reach the background process; other users on the same computer cannot read output or send input.
Terminal Stability
- Switching split panes while a terminal is printing no longer leaves gaps on screen.
- Closing or creating terminals is no longer blocked after a large paste.
- Windows terminals get the full set of system environment variables, so tools like node-gyp find Visual Studio.
Remote Connections
- When the other computer comes back online, Termdock reconnects right away instead of waiting out the retry delay.
- A disconnected remote mount has a Reconnect button in the workspace panel.
- Remote mounts can have their own names, so several mounts from one computer are easy to tell apart.
- The sidebar Git panel follows the focused terminal.
Interface
- Sidebar entries are grouped, and every entry stays reachable in short windows.
- Permission cards show the reason, the full command, and the working directory separately, so approving from a phone needs no scrolling.
- The diff viewer previews images side by side.
GitHub Access
- Signing in to GitHub asks only for public repositories and read-only profile data.
- Private repository access is requested only when you create a private repository.
- Accounts that are already signed in do not need to authorize again.
AI and Agents
- When an older Claude model is retired, Termdock switches to one that is still available.
- The latest codex can be dispatched through the Agent API.
- External AI tools can query code structure read-only over MCP.
Refresh and Diagnostics
- Refresh (F5) reloads only the window; terminals and remote connections stay up.
- When the app or a helper process crashes, the reason is recorded for bug reports.
- The CLI reports the size limit clearly instead of crashing on very large input.
Notes
- Background terminals do not survive signing out or shutting down the computer. They do survive quitting, crashes, and updates.
- Remote (peer) and SSH terminals still end with the app.
Installation Instructions
- Download the installer for your platform
- On macOS, open the DMG and drag Termdock to Applications folder
- On macOS, first launch may require allowing the app in System Preferences > Security & Privacy
