Homebrew

If you have a Mac, installing everything is much easier with Homebrew.

$ /usr/bin/ruby -e "$(curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Homebrew/install/master/install)"

You should have ruby installed by default. Homebrew is a package manager for MacOS that fills in the gaps of not having apt. You can install pretty much anything with it. And it'll put it all in your path.

$ brew install git
$ brew install node
$ brew install postgresql
$ brew install solr

The Windows version is called scoop, but it's for PowerShell.

Update your packages like this:

$ brew update

And remove packages you don't want like this:

$ brew remove <packagename>

You can also search the repository for packages and get detail on them like this

$ brew search <partialpattern>
$ brew info <package>

And you should be able to use tab completion on the command line to find packages.
