Troubleshooting

An older-version spectator gets "Network Protocol Error" / "Failed to load registries"

This is the known upstream ViaBackwards limitation for 26.2 — see Cross-Version Support. It is not fixable in this mod; it needs a ViaBackwards update. Same-version (26.2) spectators are unaffected.

The game won't start / mod conflict

Make sure you are not also running ViaFabric, ViaFabricPlus, or standalone ViaVersion/ViaBackwards/ViaRewind. This mod bundles and boots Via itself and declares those as incompatible.

/nes share says "Failed to start server"

  • Check the port isn't already in use; try /nes share <otherPort>.
  • Check the host logs/latest.log for the actual exception and open a bug report with it.

/nes via says cross-version is OFF

Via failed to initialise. Open the host logs/latest.log, look for lines tagged [NES] or ViaVersion, and include them in a bug report.

Reporting a bug

Use the issue tracker. Please include:

  • Host Minecraft version + mod version
  • Spectator version (if a join problem)
  • The relevant part of logs/latest.log (host, and spectator client if applicable)
