Fixed Model Loading Issue

  • Resolved infinite loading when fetching available AI models in settings panel
  • The "Loading available models..." message would hang indefinitely, preventing users from accessing model selection
  • Now loads instantly or falls back to default models if the API is unavailable

Improved API Stability

  • Removed problematic parameters from vscode.lm.selectChatModels() that caused the API to hang
  • Reverted to calling the API without parameters, which provides reliable model fetching
  • Enhanced error handling with proper fallback to default Copilot models

Enhanced Compatibility

  • Lowered VS Code engine requirement from 1.99.1 to 1.90.0
  • Now compatible with Cursor and other VS Code-based editors
  • Works with VS Code versions 1.90.0 and above

Technical Details

The model loading issue was caused by passing {vendor: undefined, family: undefined} parameters to the VS Code Language Model API. This caused the API call to hang indefinitely, leaving users stuck on the loading screen. The fix removes these parameters and calls selectChatModels() without arguments, which provides stable and fast model fetching.

Installation

From VSIX File

Download groupcode-1.4.3.vsix and install via:

  1. VS Code/Cursor Command Palette: Press Ctrl+Shift+P (Windows/Linux) or Cmd+Shift+P (Mac)
  2. Type: Extensions: Install from VSIX...
  3. Select the downloaded groupcode-1.4.3.vsix file

Or use the command line:

code --install-extension groupcode-1.4.3.vsix
