@thejohnd0e thejohnd0e released this 02 Oct 21:20

LingvoLoc 4.1.0

Install: download and run LingvoLoc_4.1.0_x64-setup.exe. The installer downloads the WebView2 runtime if it is missing; no other prerequisites.

  • Cloud AI providers. Besides OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini and DeepL, you can now translate with DeepSeek, OpenRouter, xAI Grok and any OpenAI-compatible endpoint (the endpoint field is in Settings). Each provider has its own key, model list and optional proxy (http://, https:// or socks5://). Models whose id contains free are highlighted (★) in the lists.
  • Use your subscriptions. ChatGPT Plus/Pro signs in through the browser (OpenAI's "Sign in with ChatGPT" for open-source apps) and spends your plan allowance instead of an API key; set a weekly cap for LingvoLoc in ChatGPT under Settings → Usage. SuperGrok signs in with a device code; xAI does not document this for third-party apps, so it is unofficial and xAI may refuse some accounts (HTTP 403). Both are for personal use.
  • Settings. Cloud settings are laid out per provider; a saved key shows as masked and its status as "Saved securely"; the browser extension uses the provider and model selected in the desktop app.
  • Responsiveness. The window no longer freezes ("Not Responding") when a model does not answer; a pending translation can be cancelled with the Cancel button, and a provider that never responds fails after 30 seconds. Provider error messages (for example "No endpoints found for this model") are shown for OpenAI-style gateways.
  • Browser extension: version bump only (re-pair after restarting the desktop app, as before).

Assets:

  • Windows NSIS installer.
  • Chromium extension ZIP (remove and reload the extension in chrome://extensions, then paste the token again).

@thejohnd0e thejohnd0e released this 01 Oct 02:48

LingvoLoc 3.1.2

Install: download and run LingvoLoc_3.1.2_x64-setup.exe (it replaces an older installed version). The installer downloads the WebView2 runtime if it is missing; no other prerequisites.

  • Fix: the GitHub link in the main window did nothing; it opens the repository page again.
  • Documentation: both READMEs (English and Russian) now start with a System requirements section (Windows 10/11 x64, disk space, memory for the model, GPU options, internet, browser, PDF limits).
  • Everything from 3.1.1 is included: layout-preserving PDF translation with page ranges, saving over an existing file, and the reorganised README.

Assets:

  • Windows NSIS installer.
  • Chromium extension ZIP (unchanged functionality; remove and reload the extension in chrome://extensions, then paste the token again).

LingvoLoc 3.1.1

@thejohnd0e thejohnd0e released this 01 Oct 02:24

LingvoLoc 3.1.1

Install: download and run LingvoLoc_3.1.1_x64-setup.exe. The installer downloads the WebView2 runtime if it is missing; no other prerequisites.

  • PDF translation that keeps the layout. Translate text PDFs in place: headings, columns, tables, tables of contents, coloured panels (tips, warnings, case studies), lists, captions and pictures stay where they are and only the text is replaced. Longer translations use free space first, then tighter spacing, and only then a smaller font; similar table cells and rows share one size. Paragraphs split across pages are translated as one. Centred and right-aligned text and list bullets keep their place.
  • Page ranges. The new PDF pages field (for example 5-12, 20, 30-) translates and saves only those pages to <name>.translated.<lang>.p5-12.pdf, which is the quick way to check a book before translating all of it. Changing the range later and pressing Start translation analyzes the file again with the new range instead of translating the wrong pages.
  • Fonts and requirements. Bundled Noto Sans and Noto Serif (SIL OFL) cover Latin and Cyrillic; PDFium is bundled in the installer. Code, page numbers, short all-caps labels, scanned and rotated pages stay unchanged and are listed as notes.
  • Saving over an existing file. Choosing an existing file in the save dialog and confirming now really replaces it (TXT, DOCX, EPUB, FB2, PDF). The queue and default names still never overwrite.
  • Documentation. README rewritten: a plain user guide first, the technical description at the end; a Russian README (README.ru.md) was added.
  • Includes the earlier unreleased fixes: GitHub link for the renamed repository, extension packaging script, README badges.

Assets:

  • Windows NSIS installer.
  • Chromium extension ZIP (remove and reload the extension in chrome://extensions, then paste the token again).

LingvoLoc 2.2.5

@thejohnd0e thejohnd0e released this 30 Sep 07:28

LingvoLoc 2.2.5

Install: download and run LingvoLoc_2.2.5_x64-setup.exe. The installer downloads the WebView2 runtime if it is missing; no other prerequisites.

  • Files mode. A new Text | Files switch in the header (Ctrl+1 / Ctrl+2). Translate TXT, DOCX, EPUB, and FB2 documents: choose several files or drop them on the window, follow the recent-jobs list, and translate all ready files in a row with each result saved next to its source. Translation keeps running while you use Text mode, and the Files tab shows its progress.
  • Clearer progress. A finished job shows "Translated N / N blocks in ", pause and cancel disappear once everything is translated, repeated formatting warnings are summarized in one line, and SVG images without text no longer produce warnings.
  • More reliable long jobs. Model requests stream with a 45-second idle timeout and one automatic restart-and-retry, so a stalled request no longer freezes a book for minutes. Diagnostics go to lingvoloc-document-worker.log in your temporary folder.
  • Dictionaries. Articles from StarDict folders are colour-coded for the dark theme; the repeated headword and < I > sense markers are hidden.
  • Fixes. The file picker stays available after cancelling and clearing a job; an English file with automatic target now translates into your other pair language instead of failing with en → en; errors show plain text.

Assets:

  • Windows NSIS installer.
  • Chromium extension ZIP (remove and reload the extension in chrome://extensions, then paste the token again).

@thejohnd0e thejohnd0e released this 29 Sep 14:03

LingvoLoc 2.1.1

Install: download and run LingvoLoc_2.1.1_x64-setup.exe. The installer downloads the WebView2 runtime if it is missing; no other prerequisites.

  • More model families. The prompt and chat template now follow the model file name: gemma uses the TranslateGemma prompt, hunyuan uses Hunyuan-MT's official prompt, and any other instruction-tuned model (for example Qwen) uses a generic translator prompt. llama-server is started with matching template flags, and Qwen3 thinking is switched off.
  • Speed in the status line. After each translation the main window and the clipboard popup show the response time and generation speed, for example 3779 ms · 30.7 tok/s.
  • Model benchmark and recommendations for an RTX 3060 12 GB are in the README (TranslateGemma 4B/12B quantizations, Gemma 3 12B QAT, Hunyuan-MT-7B, Qwen3-14B).

Assets:

  • Windows NSIS installer.
  • Chromium extension ZIP (remove and reload the extension in chrome://extensions, then paste the token again).

LingvoLoc 2.0.5

@thejohnd0e thejohnd0e released this 29 Sep 10:30

LingvoLoc 2.0.5

Install: download and run LingvoLoc_2.0.5_x64-setup.exe. The installer downloads the WebView2 runtime if it is missing; no other prerequisites.

  • Standalone is now the default mode. Settings has a Download llama.cpp button: LingvoLoc detects your GPU and downloads the matching build (CUDA for NVIDIA, Vulkan for other GPUs, CPU otherwise) into one fixed folder. Update llama.cpp replaces it in place and reports when the latest release is already installed. Add to PATH adds it to your user PATH.
  • GPU support row in Settings shows your video card(s), the build that will be used, and the device llama.cpp actually runs on; with several GPUs the strongest one is pinned.
  • The status pill shows the selected model instead of a file path.
  • Tray menu: Open LingvoLoc, Translate clipboard, Settings…, Start with Windows, Quit. Clipboard translation from the tray and the hotkey is fixed.
  • Settings window now has Model runtime, Dictionaries, and Browser extension (pairing token) sections; the header keeps a single gear icon. The zoom control moved to the center of the header so the status field can be longer.
  • Dictionaries: articles from different dictionaries are separate cards labeled with the dictionary name (they were merged before).
  • Browser extension: the toolbar button opens the same movable, resizable in-page window as the context menu; the fields grow with the window and the size is remembered. A ⧉ button opens the content in a separate window that stays open across tabs. Copy no longer logs clipboard permission errors on pages.

Assets:

  • Windows NSIS installer.
  • Chromium extension ZIP (remove and reload the extension in chrome://extensions, then paste the token again).

LingvoLoc 2.0.0

Choose a tag to compare

@thejohnd0e thejohnd0e released this 29 Sep 06:18

LingvoLoc 2.0.0

  • Standalone mode: translate without LM Studio. In Settings choose a folder with .gguf models and a folder with a llama.cpp build (llama-server.exe is found automatically); LingvoLoc starts, switches, and stops the model itself. LM Studio remains the default mode.
  • Model runtime and dictionary settings moved to header icons (Settings, Dictionaries).
  • No more "Not Responding": slow work runs off the UI thread, parsed dictionaries are cached, and waits show a spinner.
  • Enter sends, Shift+Enter inserts a new line; the Additional section opens automatically when a dictionary lookup starts.

Standalone setup: download a Windows llama.cpp build from https://github.com/ggml-org/llama.cpp/releases (newest bNNNNN release; vulkan for any GPU, cuda + cudart for NVIDIA, cpu otherwise). See the README for details.

Assets:

  • Windows NSIS installer.
  • Chromium extension ZIP.

@thejohnd0e thejohnd0e released this 29 Sep 03:30

LingvoLoc 1.45.2

  • Added a Translate clipboard item to the tray menu (same popup as Ctrl+Shift+T).
  • Left-click on the tray icon now shows/hides the window; the menu opens on right-click.
  • StarDict dictionaries now get their source language from the dictionary name (e.g. rus-eng).

Assets:

  • Windows NSIS installer.
  • Chromium extension ZIP.
