code --install-extension bharatcode-vscode-<platform>.vsixOn first launch the extension asks for your BharatCode API key (create one at bharatcode.ai) and validates it live. Inline autocomplete needs a bring-your-own-key provider (mistral/inception) — BharatCode's models are chat-only; see docs/CONFIGURATION.md.

BharatCode v7.8.8-bc.2
Superseded by v7.8.8-bc.3 — which renames all shipped artifacts to bharatcode (VSIX filenames + embedded binary) and adds explicit fork attribution. This release's assets still carry the old kilo-vscode-* filenames and kilo binaries; install from bc.3 instead.
Install commands from the original notes (old names, kept for the record):
code --install-extension kilo-vscode-<platform>.vsixBharatCode VS Code Extension v7.8.8-bc.1
BharatCode VS Code extension — a rebrand of the Kilo Code extension (v7.8.8) with BharatCode as the sole AI provider.
Install (VS Code, Linux x64):
- Download
kilo-vscode-linux-x64.vsix code --install-extension kilo-vscode-linux-x64.vsix(or Extensions → ••• → Install from VSIX)- Launch VS Code — the extension prompts for your BharatCode API key on first run (validates it live), then the sidebar chat is ready. Default model:
qwen-3.8-27b.
What's inside:
- Provider:
bharatcodeonly (basehttps://bharatcode.ai/api/model/v1, chat completions + responses + model listing) - Kilo cloud/telemetry/marketplace coupling stripped at the spawn-env root choke (no egress to Kilo hosts)
- Full BharatCode rebrand: manifest, UI strings, 21 locales, icons, README
- First-run API-key onboarding + "BharatCode: Set API Key" command
Proven: shipped binary lists only bharatcode/qwen-3.8-27b + bharatcode/deepseek-v4.1-flash under strip env; live API smoke 200/200/401; provider tests green modulo one network-flaky case (passes isolated); production esbuild gate green.
sha256 for kilo-vscode-linux-x64.vsix is in SHA256SUMS.
Built from bc/main @ a47597c (fork of Kilo-Org/kilocode v7.8.8, MIT).
