move from alpha to beta (0.1.0b1, Development Status :: 4 - Beta)

Bump version 0.1.0a2 -> 0.1.0b1, switch the classifier to
'4 - Beta', and update the README status wording. Surface that the
package already runs in production as a credibility note up top.
