Release list
v0.4.0-dev.44 — search everywhere, offline (Book/RECALL fixes + hub search)
Prerelease for on-device testing (Obtainium auto-updates). The great v0.4.0 STABLE stays gated.
Since dev.43 — search works everywhere, offline
- 🔎 "Search everything" on the Learn hub. One box finds a concept across all your material at once — lessons, the Rust Book, cheatsheets, and the glossary — with ranked results and snippets. Tap a hit to jump straight there.
- 📖 Book search fixed on the phone. The Rust Book's search box was silently returning "no matches" offline — it now searches the book properly (ranked chapters + snippets), fully offline.
- 🔁 RECALL works on the phone. The spaced-repetition chips (review the error codes you've overcome) never showed on mobile — they do now, offline.
Same 76 exercises as dev.43.
v0.4.0-dev.43 — lesson full-text search + explorer/journey polish
Prerelease for on-device testing (Obtainium auto-updates). The great v0.4.0 STABLE stays gated.
Since dev.42
- 🔎 Lesson full-text search (offline). The Lessons search box now searches the text of every lesson, not just titles — type a concept like "borrow" and you'll see the lessons named for it and a "📄 Also found in the text of" list of lessons that discuss it, each with a match count and a snippet. Works fully offline.
- 🗂 IDE explorer: fold-all / unfold-all. One tap collapses every phase so the whole 12-phase curriculum fits on one screen; tap again to expand.
- 🗺 Your Journey: per-stage progress bars. Each stage now shows an animated bar that fills as you read — the path is measurable from day one.
- 🏆 "Phase complete!" milestone. Finishing the last exercise of a whole phase now earns a gold celebration, distinct from the per-exercise one.
Same 76 exercises as dev.42 (this batch is UI + search).
v0.4.0-dev.42 — unified fullscreen IDE + explorer overhaul
Prerelease for on-device testing (Obtainium auto-updates). The great v0.4.0 STABLE stays gated.
The unified fullscreen IDE + explorer overhaul (since dev.41)
- Fullscreen IDE actually fills the screen now (fixed edge-to-edge overlay).
- The 🧪 Sandbox and the 🛠 IDE are one environment. Your free-play scratch files live right in the IDE's file explorer alongside the course exercises (same store) — edit + run both in one place. The separate Sandbox view is gone.
- File explorer overhaul:
- Collapsible phase groups with a file-count badge — the tree opens on the phase you're currently working in, the rest fold away (your folds are remembered).
- Opening a file reveals it even if its phase was folded.
- A filter box to jump to any file by name across every phase.
All fully offline. Same 76 exercises as dev.41 (this batch is UI-only).
v0.4.0-dev.41 — visible predict verdict + badge progress + polish
Silent prerelease — small focused batch since dev.40 (Obtainium auto-updates). STABLE v0.4 later.
New since dev.40
- Predict-first: you now see if you were right. After you run, the verdict ("✓ outcome: right · nailed it") shows in the summary — it used to be written to a collapsed element and never displayed. A perfect guess (outcome + error code both right) gets a 🎯 pop.
- Completion: the "Next up: …" popup shows the friendly lesson title, not the id slug.
- Badges: locked badges now show how to earn them + progress ("12/20", "1/3 🔥"), not a mystery lock.
- +1 exercise (76): two functions sharing a name → E0428 "defined multiple times".
Built locally; gradle BUILD SUCCESSFUL. Bundle-verified: version 0.4.0-dev.41, all features present, 76 exercises, offline workspace endpoints intact.

v0.4.0-dev.40 — offline IDE + textbook switching + gamification
Silent prerelease batching ~8 loop-ticks of work since dev.39 for on-device testing (Obtainium auto-updates). STABLE v0.4 remains later.
New since dev.39
- IDE, fully offline — the file explorer is now PART of the IDE (a sidebar beside an always-visible editor, foldable terminal). The explorer + open-file now work with no network on the phone (served by the embedded server). Your edits persist as an offline draft (never lost) with a Reset.
- Textbooks (#41) — the in-app Rust Book chapters read cleanly (no more
{{#include}}noise); bidirectional switching between a Patina lesson and its Rust Book chapter; a reading-size control; the concept chip is now a clearly-tappable pill. - Gamification — XP · levels · streaks · 7 badges (cheat-proof) + motion polish.
- +3 exercises (75 total): dereferencing a non-reference (E0614), struct-literal extra field (E0560), tuple field / array length walls.
Built locally; gradle BUILD SUCCESSFUL. Bundle-verified: version 0.4.0-dev.40, all features present, 75 exercises, the offline workspace endpoints in the native seam.

v0.4.0-dev.39 — Gamification + reading size + motion polish
Auto-updates via Obtainium. Everything web-only since dev.38 now reaches the phone.
🎮 Gamification — a Level / XP / 🔥streak chip in the header; tap it for your badges (7 milestones). You earn XP only by genuinely passing exercises — hints and answer-reveals never grant XP, by design. A level-up pulses the chip.
🔤 Reading size — ⋯ menu → Reading size → A− / A+. Scales ALL the reading text at once (the Book, every lesson, the lesson drawer), 85%–150%, and remembers your choice.
✨ Motion polish — the progress bars fill smoothly, views fade in as you navigate, and levelling up celebrates. All of it respects your system "reduce motion" setting.
Plus everything from dev.38: the fullscreen 🛠 IDE (Files / Editor / Terminal) and the full 78-lesson curriculum.
Spot-check on your phone, please:
- The header shows a "Lv · 🔥" chip; pass an exercise and watch XP/streak move; tap the chip for badges.
- ⋯ → Reading size → A+ a couple of times: a lesson's text grows and stays big after you reopen it.
- Navigating between views fades gently; a level-up pulses the chip.
- Nothing above should ever reward a hint/reveal with XP.

v0.4.0-dev.38 — Fullscreen IDE + full 78-lesson curriculum
The biggest drop since dev.37. Auto-updates via Obtainium (prerelease channel).
New: the fullscreen 🛠 IDE — open it from the ⋯ menu. Three separate, each-fullscreen-able views:
- 🗂 Files — a real file explorer over the whole exercise curriculum, grouped by phase, with status dots and locks.
- ✎ Editor — open any exercise file, edit it, Run it offline, Save it (persists).
- ▤ Terminal — a fullscreen console for the output.
It's a workshop: nothing here changes your progress or reveals an answer — do graded work in 📝 Practice.
Curriculum: 56 → 78 baby-step lessons. Every dense lesson split into smaller, one-concept steps; ~20 new real-compiler error walls to predict; all forward-references removed; navigation chain now guarded by an automated integrity check.
Spot-check on your phone, please:
- ⋯ menu → 🛠 IDE → Files: the explorer lists exercises; tap one → it opens in the Editor; ⛶ Fullscreen works and the terminal fills the screen.
- Learn → Lessons: the list shows 78 lessons; open Lesson 1 and confirm the "← Lesson 0" back-link is there.
- A couple of split lessons (15b Moves, 35b Thread pool) read cleanly.
- Termux Run still works from the IDE editor (the on-device compile path).

v0.4.0-dev.37 — 56 baby-step lessons: the curriculum overhaul
The batch since dev.36 — the largest content delivery yet.
Curriculum: 38 → 56 lessons. Eleven dense lessons split into atomic baby-steps (ownership rules, structs/methods/derive, enums/Option/match, Result/panic/?, generics/traits/lifetimes, closures, iterators, Box/Rc/RefCell), three trimmed, 41 jumping-ahead references repaired. Every lesson's practice now routes into the app — type the reps in the 🧪 Sandbox, then a one-tap handoff into the matching Practice exercise (one-exercise-per-lesson coupling).
Reading nav suite: prev/next on Book chapters, quizzes, and cheatsheets; the read-while-coding lesson drawer now styled like the Learn tab; glossary definitions render inline code.
Glossary 61 → 67 terms (constant, expression, statement, macro, type annotation, cargo; 'variable' now finds binding).
Under the hood: the on-device content re-seed now cleanly removes renamed/deleted lessons (no ghosts) — this update re-seeds once on first launch; your progress is untouched.
Please test on-device: lesson list (should show 56 across the stages), a few of the new split lessons (e.g. 16b, 20c, 29d), the practice handoffs, and that no old lesson titles linger.
v0.4.0-dev.36 — copy any code example
Every code block in the lessons and the Book now has a small '⧉ Copy' button in the corner — tap it to copy that snippet (works for whole programs and partial examples), then paste it into the Sandbox, your Termux, or wherever. Complements the ▷ Run / ✎ Open in Sandbox buttons. Verified web + a11y e2e 36/36 (both themes).
v0.4.0-dev.35 — open a lesson example in the Sandbox to tinker
Reading a code example in a lesson or the Book? Now there's a '✎ Open in Sandbox' button next to ▷ Run — tap it to drop that example into the Sandbox as a new file, then edit and re-run it freely. It opens as its own file, so it never overwrites your other scratch work. Read → run → tinker, all connected. Verified web + a11y e2e 30/30. On-device run uses the same Termux path as before — please test on-device.
