Screens
The display splits into the flight list on the left and a view panel on the right. The button in the header cycles the right panel through five views: flight card, map, radar, stats and retro radar. The gear icon opens Settings.
Every aircraft within your radius, nearest first: airline logo, callsign (plus ticket-style flight number with a FlightAware key), type code, altitude with a climb/descend arrow, speed and distance. The list shows the 40 nearest of up to 80 tracked.
- The type code is colored by aircraft class (airliner, light, helicopter, military, other), matching the marker colors on the map and radar.
- Watchlist hits, military and notable heavies are highlighted in gold.
- Tap a row to select that flight; the right panel follows the selection.
- With the ship layer on, a toggle above the list switches between Planes, Ships and All. The choice also decides what the radar and map draw.
By default the selection auto-cycles through flights every few seconds. Turn Auto-cycle through flights off in Settings to pin one flight and follow it.
The detail view for the selected flight:
- Airline name and logo, route with city names, country flags and local airport times (shown only when the airport is in a different timezone than yours)
- Progress bar with percent flown, distance to go, ETA and local arrival time
- Altitude, speed, vertical rate, distance, track and registration
- Squawk and ADS-B category, with emergencies called out loudly
- The spotter line: which way to look (compass direction and elevation above the horizon) and a flyover prediction ("passes you in ~3 min at 1.2 km")
- Aircraft photo from planespotters.net; tap it for full screen
- The Map button opens the full-screen route map
A full-screen map with the great-circle track between origin and destination, the aircraft's live position and its flight trail.
- Swipe to pan, +/- buttons to zoom. Zooming recenters on the aircraft.
- Works across the antimeridian and for any route length.
- Close with the X in the corner.
The route map embedded in the right panel: the selected flight's track scaled to fit, from a short domestic hop to a half-globe long-haul arc, with a compact flight card below (airline, route, progress, ETA). It follows the selection as the list auto-cycles, which makes it a pleasant "where is everyone going" mode. Tap the map to open the full-screen route map.
Map tiles come from CARTO (OpenStreetMap data) and are cached in RAM; the world-scale views use a bundled NASA Blue Marble map, so they render even before any tiles arrive. The optional rain radar overlay and brighter map tiles toggle live in Settings.
A classic range-ring radar on a real map of your area, north up, with runway strips of nearby airports. Aircraft appear as class-colored plane silhouettes with callsign labels; the selected flight also shows its route endpoints.
- Tap an aircraft to select it. Tap the selected aircraft again to hide its label bubble (it can cover traffic behind it); tap once more to bring it back.
- Layers draw here too: the ISS, weather balloons, ships and airspace outlines. Dense ship traffic collapses into green count badges (visible in the screenshot above, taken near the port of Rotterdam); zoom in with the +/- buttons and they resolve into individual ships.
- The ring radius follows your search radius and the ring scale is labeled at the bottom.
Session statistics since the last restart:
- New aircraft per hour (bar chart)
- Top airlines by sightings
- Records: fastest, farthest and highest aircraft, with unique aircraft count
- Current METAR from the nearest reporting airport, raw or decoded (see Settings), plus an optional TAF forecast
A green CRT radar with a sweeping beam, afterglow blips and callsigns, because some things simply belong on a desk. Purely decorative, fully live.
After a configurable idle time (Map screensaver after in Settings, 0 disables it) the device switches to a calm full-screen mode: your observation circle on the map, every aircraft in range, a large clock and current weather. Tap any plane for its route; tap anywhere else to wake up.
Two styles are available under Screensaver style:
- Sky map: the map-based mode above
- Retro radar: the CRT radar as a full-screen screensaver
With the AIS layer active, ships get their own detail card: name, type, destination, speed and position, plus a marker on the map and radar. Clusters of ships collapse into count badges at low zoom.
