v1.3.11

Choose a tag to compare

@theshiver theshiver released this 22 Oct 04:56

Fixes printers failing with "cupsRasterInterpretPPD: Unknown operator 612,000" on German, Turkish, French and other comma-decimal systems. The PPD generator wrote page sizes with the system's decimal separator (PageSize[612,000 792,000]), which CUPS can't parse. PPDs are now always generated with the C locale, so this no longer depends on the system language. It affected every Gutenprint-based model; Brother (brlaser) and Samsung/Xerox/Dell (SpliX) printers were not affected.

Existing queues are repaired. Installing this version over the old one rebuilds any Gutenprint queue whose PPD has the comma format, on the same device and with the same name. No uninstall and no re-adding needed.

If you already hit this and can't update yet: sudo LC_ALL=C gutenprint-add <model-id>.

3,664 models in total. Signed and notarized by Apple.

v1.3.10

@theshiver theshiver released this 20 Oct 06:17

Xerox Phaser 8560N supported. It's the 8560DN without the duplex unit and uses the same PCL engine, so it now has its own entry and is picked automatically on USB. Leave 2-Sided Printing off, since this model has no duplexer.

Dye-sub photo printers that need Gutenprint's own USB backend are no longer offered (#18). These printers only print through that backend, which this package doesn't include. Over the standard USB connection the job showed as completed and nothing printed. Affected: Mitsubishi CP-D70/D80/9550 and similar, Canon SELPHY CP/ES, DNP, Citizen, Shinko/Sinfonia, HiTi, and most Kodak and Sony photo printers. The installer no longer creates queues for them, and gutenprint-add says why instead of setting up a queue that silently drops jobs.

3,664 models in total. Installing over the previous version is fine, no uninstall needed.

Signed and notarized by Apple.

v1.3.9

@theshiver theshiver released this 11 Oct 12:08

96 Samsung, Xerox and Dell lasers supported through the new bundled SpliX 2.0.2 driver. These are printers that only speak Samsung's SPL language, so no other driver could print to them: the Samsung ML-1640, ML-2010, ML-2240, ML-2525, SCX-4200, SCX-4521F, SCX-3400, CLP-300, CLP-315 and Xpress M2020/M2070, the Xerox Phaser 3117, 3140, 3160 and 6110, the Dell 1100/1110 and others.

Brother HL-2170W and HP LaserJet Pro M201dw are now supported, together with the M201n, M202n/dw and MFP M225dn/dw/M226dn/dw. All of them print through Gutenprint's PCL driver.

Fix: long double-sided jobs no longer hang on SpliX printers. Upstream SpliX stalled on manual-duplex jobs over 30 pages, and it wrote page swap files to a folder macOS doesn't let printer drivers use. Both are fixed in the bundled build.

FAQ: explains why Brother DCP-T / MFC-T ink tank printers (#15, #16) and the host-based HP LaserJet 1018 / 1020 / P1005 / P1006 (#14) can't be supported, and what to use instead.

3,806 models in total. Installing over the previous version is fine, no uninstall needed.

v1.3.8

Fix: Brother HL-1110 / HL-1210W / DCP-1610W printed nothing for complex pages (#4). Plain text printed, but a denser page, such as a PDF from Preview, made the printer click once and stop. The Brother driver is now the maintained brlaser 6.2.8, which fixes this.

97 Brother lasers supported (was 30), including the DCP-1610W, MFC-7320 (#6), HL-L2350DW, HL-L2390DW and MFC-L2710DW.

Gutenprint 5.3.5 (#5): 26 new models, mostly dye-sub photo printers (Canon SELPHY CP1500, DNP DS480/DS680, HiTi, Sony), plus Epson SureColor P5000, Epson SureLab D700 and Sharp MX-2600N.

Fix: about 100 models could not be added by hand. Models with long ids, such as the Canon Pro9000 Mk.II, Kyocera TASKalfa and Lanier printers, showed a broken command on the website. These now work.

Installing over the previous version is fine, no uninstall needed. Existing printers are updated to the new drivers automatically; without this update they would stop printing after the upgrade.

Can't find your printer? Many newer models, including Brother color lasers such as the MFC-L3770CDW, support AirPrint and need no driver (#9).

v1.3.7

@theshiver theshiver released this 23 Sep 09:52

Fix: Printer Features settings could not be saved on macOS 27 (#1). In the print dialog, Printer Options > Printer Features > OK did nothing for Canon, Epson and other Gutenprint printers. Changes are saved now.

Installing over the previous version is fine, no uninstall needed. Connect the printer by USB before installing so its queue is refreshed with the fixed settings file.

Signed and notarized by Apple.

v1.3.6

@theshiver theshiver released this 23 Sep 09:25

New: Brother laser support. 30 Brother mono lasers that have no PCL or AirPrint now work natively on Apple Silicon through the bundled arm64 brlaser v6 driver: HL-1110, HL-1200, HL-1210W, HL-2030, HL-2140, HL-2220, HL-2270DW, HL-5030, HL-L2300D/L2320D/L2340D/L2360D, DCP-1510, DCP-1600, DCP-7030/7040/7055/7055W/7060D/7065DN/7080/7080D, DCP-L2500D/L2520D/L2540DW, MFC-1910W, MFC-7240, MFC-7360N, MFC-7365DN and MFC-L2710DW. USB printers are set up automatically on install.

Also: queue setup errors are now reported instead of silently ignored.

Thanks to @acyment for the HL-1210W work in #3.

v1.3.5

Choose a tag to compare

@theshiver theshiver released this 20 Sep 10:13

Fix: printing failed with "Gutenprint found a corrupted NickName attribute" on printers added by v1.3.1 to v1.3.4. The friendlier printer name was written into a PPD field that the driver validates. The name is now set on the queue instead. Reinstalling fixes existing printers automatically.

Signed and notarized by Apple.

v1.3.4

@theshiver theshiver released this 19 Sep 15:26

Fix: old-queue cleanup in the installer and uninstaller relied on English lpstat output and did nothing on non-English Macs. Signed and notarized by Apple.
