TunnelCrab v0.9.10

Choose a tag to compare

@theyhatelose theyhatelose released this 12 Jul 18:38

TunnelCrab v0.9.10 is a major honesty, reliability and speed release.

The app no longer lies about your connection.

  • Green "Connected" now means three things were actually verified: the VPN core is running, the internet is reachable through the tunnel, and your traffic really exits through the VPN (your external IP changed). Until all three are confirmed, the app shows a neutral "Checking connection" state instead of instant green.
  • If the tunnel is up but websites don't work, you now see "Connection problem: the VPN is running, but internet access through it is not working" instead of a false green.
  • If your traffic bypasses the VPN entirely, the app warns you: "Traffic bypasses the VPN".
  • The connection is quietly re-checked every 15 seconds while connected, so pulling the cable or a dying server shows up on screen automatically, and recovery turns it back green, also automatically.
  • The IP card is honest too: it shows your real exit IP, "Checking…", or "IP check failed". A failed check is no longer disguised as "Protected".

Websites now work without any server-side tricks.

  • Fixed a routing bug that broke most websites (including YouTube) in Whole Computer mode on IPv4-only servers.
  • The client now blocks QUIC/HTTP3 so browsers fall back to regular HTTPS that the tunnel handles reliably. No server-side sniffing required anymore.

Much faster connects and failures.

  • A healthy connection turns green in about 3 seconds.
  • No internet at all (unplugged cable, dead Wi-Fi) is detected locally in a fraction of a second: the app says "No network connection" immediately and doesn't even start the VPN core.
  • A dead or unreachable server shows "Connection problem" in a few seconds.

New: Hide IP addresses (streamer mode).

  • One switch in Settings hides your IP and server addresses everywhere: the main screen, server cards, the Crab's Diary and copied diagnostics. Great for screenshots and streams. Turning it off brings the details back.

Better diagnostics.

  • Copy diagnostics now includes the full picture: core state, internet check result, route verification, DNS state, and a frozen snapshot of your last connection attempt, so it stays useful even after you disconnect.
  • Core log lines in copied diagnostics are cleaned of terminal color codes.
  • Ping is shown only when it's a real measurement; the misleading "0 ms" in Whole Computer mode is gone.

Notes:

  • Download the installer only from the official GitHub Releases page.
  • The installer is published together with a SHA256 checksum file, and the in-app updater verifies it before installation.

What's next:

Future versions may add optional, on-demand diagnostics for service-specific problems such as YouTube or browser/QUIC issues. These checks will remain separate from the normal connection process so they do not slow down startup or cause false connection failures.

Further work may also improve Whole Computer startup time by reusing the privileged helper and Wintun adapter more efficiently.

TunnelCrab v0.9.9

@theyhatelose theyhatelose released this 11 Jun 23:22

TunnelCrab v0.9.9 is a polish and bugfix release.

Fixes:

  • Check Sites results are now fully localized - no more Russian status text in the English UI.
  • The Crab's Diary re-renders its entries when the app language changes.
  • Consistent capitalization and localization across the IP / DNS / Ping / Session status cards, including ping quality labels.
  • The main power button reacts immediately, and a second click reliably cancels a connection attempt.
  • The power button is now clickable across its full visible area, including the ring edges and corners.
  • Repeated clicks with no servers configured no longer spam the Crab's Diary, and the message now mentions both options: add a server or a subscription.

Notes:

  • Download the installer only from the official GitHub Releases page.
  • The installer is published together with a SHA256 checksum file, and the in-app updater verifies it before installation.

  • VLESS + Reality over TCP.
  • VLESS + Reality over XHTTP / SplitHTTP.
  • HTTP(S) subscriptions: plaintext, base64, or mixed content.

Notes:

  • Download the installer only from the official GitHub Releases page.
  • The installer is published together with a SHA256 checksum file, and the in-app updater verifies it before installation.
