Spotify Changes Overview

As I suspected, Spotify developers are making changes to their platform for February 2026 with little to no warning.

Here are the general takeaways:

1. they infer that the Spotify Developer Portal will be open again starting February 11th 2026 (5 days from this writing).

2. changes will affect all Spotify Developer App client id's starting March 9th 2026 (approximately 30 days from this writing).

3. it appears they deprecated some more Spotify Web API endpoints, specifically ones that relate to pulling of bulk data:

   • Get Several Albums
   • Get New Releases
   • Get Several Artists
   • Get Artists Albums
   • Get Artists Top Tracks
   • Get Several Audiobooks
   • Get Users Playlists
   • Get Several Shows
   • Get Several Tracks
     ... and more

4. These changes will limit more functionality in the SpotifyPlus Integration and SpotifyPlus Card, as well as in the SoundTouchPlus Integration and SoundTouchPlus Card.

It appears that spotifyplus.save_track_favorites fails with 403 Forbidden when using a newly created Spotify application (created after February 11, 2026).

Spotify reopened app creation on February 11 and introduced API changes for newly created apps. According to the official changelog (February 2026), the operation:

• [REMOVED] Save Tracks for Current User (PUT /me/tracks)

  • Replacement: PUT /me/library

Steps to reproduce:

1. Create a new app and credentials in the Spotify Developer Dashboard (after Feb 11, 2026).
2. Install and configure spotifyplus with new credentials
3. Run spotifyplus.save_track_favorites.

Result:
The request fails with 403 Forbidden.

It is unclear whether spotifyplus directly uses the removed /me/tracks endpoint, but this change may be the cause of the failure. If so, updating the integration to use PUT /me/library instead could potentially resolve the issue.

Thanks for noting this, and I am aware of these issues.

Whether you receive an error or not depends on whether you are using one of the new Spotify Developer App client id's (created on or after 2026/02/11). If it's a newer client id, then the error is expected as I have not made changes yet for the Spotify API changes that were made in February 2026.

Note that if you are using an older client id the endpoints should still work until March 9, 2026 - this is the "drop dead" date for older client id functionality to conform to the new / updated endpoints.

I am currently working on the changes to support the new endpoints, but am nowhere near complete as of yet. Spotify changed A LOT of functionality with this one, and (as usual) they did not inform us of the changes beforehand.

Will keep you posted on this thread when I release the update.

Hi,
I’d like to report that for about a week everything was working correctly, even with a newly created customer ID.

There were no issues until today, but after updating the Spotify Plus integration, it stopped working.

Is this happening only to me, or are others experiencing the same issue?

It's happening to me as well.

I believe it's due to the underlying changes that Spotify is making to their Spotify Web API. This will probably keep happening until 2026/03/09, which is when they convert all Spotify Developer App client id's to their new format and fully deprecate endpoint functionality that was changed on 2026/02/06 with their Update on Developer Access and Platform Security.

So, in your opinion, will there be days when it works and others when it doesn’t?
Because this morning I was able to listen to music and the integration was working properly. Then I updated the integration and, after restarting Home Assistant, it was no longer able to connect to Spotify.

FYI - just released a new version of the SpotifyPlus integration

These address the February 2026 Update on Developer Access and Platform Security changes made by Spotify to their Spotify Web API product.

There are A LOT of changes with this release, but hopefully minimal impact for functions that were minor. Some functions had to be completely deprecated, meaning that an error message will be returned stating that the function is no longer available (as opposed to just a generic "function not found" message).

Apologies in advance if something that is critical for you fails to work going forward; it's the best I could do with the lack of advanced notification from Spotify on their changes. To be honest, I am quite frustrated with Spotify right now, as this is the second time they have made major unannounced changes that reduce functionality in their Web API - not to mention raising the price of their Premium membership by $1 per month!

I notieced new version..

Form around week when I try to transfer/start playback I got error

"Error: Player command failed: Restriction violated"

Before recreate token, which in most cases helps (btw, still fon;t get why sometimes it is deleted or changed?? )

So I checked first for new spotify version. I instaled latest - and voila, integration not loading anymore.. I also updated card. My system is:

Not for sure on that on - it appears that something related to requirements did not function correctly. There are no recognizable messages generated from SpotifyPlus in the log error.

I would suggest that you follow the steps in the Integration Remove wiki, and try the install again. HACS or HA may have left artifacts from the previous version in place, which might be interfering with the current install.
