@thomasdavis thomasdavis released this 20 Aug 02:59

First tagged release. SSH Fighter is a complete two-player fighting game you play by SSH-ing into a terminal — no download, no browser, no account.

ssh sshfighter.com

Highlights

  • 17 fighters, each with three special moves (51 total), full pose coverage, and six animated arenas.
  • Quick matchmaking, solo practice, a Fight Lounge (presence + persistent chat + direct challenges), and best-of-three online fights.
  • Verified SSH-key identities with persistent handles, ELO, records, and fully rebindable controls.
  • Universal octant/quadrant renderer with changed-cell ANSI diffs, zlib transport, backpressure, and a zoom-proof pixel-font HUD.
  • Read-only public fighter dossiers + sprite gallery at sshfighter.com.

In this release

  • Redesigned Street-Fighter-II-style character select and a rebuilt two-panel Fight Lounge with scrollback.
  • New internal abstractions: a Terminal I/O boundary and a Renderer backend seam.
  • Optional, off-by-default terminal enhancements (SF_CAPS=1): kitty graphics, precise kitty-keyboard input, mouse, and synchronized output — negotiated per connection, degrading silently.
  • Security: bounded the terminal-reply parser, patched Next.js, and reviewed the SSH/API/auth surfaces.
