0.19.0 (2026-06-07)

Highlights

  • MCP Java SDK 2.0 release candidate - upgraded the underlying MCP Java SDK to 2.0.0-RC1 and refreshed docs to call out the release-candidate dependency clearly.
  • STREAMABLE-only HTTP support - removed the deprecated SSE server mode and related configuration so HTTP deployments use the modern STREAMABLE transport path.
  • Cleaner annotation processing - generate component providers during a non-final annotation-processing round, removing the javac warning about generated types created in the last round.
  • Code generation quality pass - fixed Javadoc warnings in codegen support classes and added a successful compile-time generation test that exercises provider and service descriptor generation.
  • Coverage improvement - added coverage for the successful annotation-processing/codegen path, raising local JaCoCo line coverage from about 58% to about 91%.
  • Build and CI refresh - updated Maven build plugins and dependencies, and refreshed GitHub Actions workflows for the current release pipeline.

Dependency

<dependency>
    <groupId>io.github.thought2code</groupId>
    <artifactId>mcp-annotated-java-sdk</artifactId>
    <version>0.19.0</version>
</dependency>
implementation 'io.github.thought2code:mcp-annotated-java-sdk:0.19.0'

Built against MCP Java SDK 2.0.0-RC1. Requires Java 17+ and Maven 3.9.16+ (use ./mvnw).

Changes since 0.18.0

Breaking / Removed

  • Remove deprecated SSE support from the SDK.
  • Remove unused parameter converter code.

Build & Dependencies

  • Upgrade MCP Java SDK to 2.0.0-RC1.
  • Bump Jetty, Logback, JaCoCo, and Maven Surefire versions.
  • Update GitHub Actions workflows for Maven build and deploy.

Tests & Quality

  • Add AnnotationProcessorCompileSuccessTest to compile a valid fixture in the test JVM and verify generated ComponentProvider source plus META-INF/services output.
  • Move provider generation out of the final annotation-processing round to avoid javac last-round generation warnings.
  • Fix codegen Javadoc tags so the Javadoc jar builds cleanly.
  • Keep full release verification green with mvn clean verify.

Documentation

  • Align README, docs, and llms*.txt dependency snippets with 0.19.0.
  • Update MCP SDK documentation references from milestone wording to 2.0.0-RC1 release-candidate wording.

Upgrade notes

  1. SSE removed - ServerMode.SSE and SSE-specific server/configuration support are no longer available; use STREAMABLE for HTTP deployments.
  2. MCP SDK RC dependency - this release depends on MCP Java SDK 2.0.0-RC1. Pin versions and rerun integration tests when upgrading.
  3. Rebuild required - run a full Maven compile so the annotation processor generates ComponentProvider entries and the service descriptor.
  4. Component classes - component classes still need a public no-arg constructor; one instance is shared across concurrent requests, so keep handlers stateless or thread-safe.
  5. Java and Maven requirements - use Java 17+ and the Maven Wrapper (./mvnw) for the expected Maven 3.9.16+ build.
