n8n — n8n-nodes-algenta

An n8n community node exposing your engine's MCP tool surface as typed n8n operations — Get Contract, Query Data, Simulate, Recommend, Plan Decision, Log Decision, Execute Decision — with a real ExecutionReceipt on success and a NodeApiError naming the real policy gate (idempotency / confidence / risk_floor) when one blocks execution.

npm

n8n already ships a generic built-in MCP Client node; this package exists for what a generic node can't give you: typed per-operation parameters, a proper receipt, named-gate errors, and a Tool Profile selector that refuses Execute Decision under observe/govern before any network call — including when the node is wrapped as a tool inside an n8n AI Agent.

Install

npm install n8n-nodes-algenta # inside your own n8n instance, then restart n8n

Or install n8n-nodes-algenta from n8n's Community Nodes settings page. Node.js 18.10+ (pnpm 9+ only if building from source).

Quickstart

# See the real node in a throwaway local n8n — no engine required:
git clone https://github.com/thyn-ai/algenta-integrations.git
cd algenta-integrations/typescript/n8n-nodes-algenta
pnpm install
pnpm --filter n8n-nodes-algenta dev # open http://localhost:5678, add an "Algenta" node

Configure an Algenta API credential: Base URL (default http://localhost:8000 — no /mcp suffix, the node appends it) and, only if your engine enforces auth, an API Key sent as a bearer token. With no engine running, the credential Test fails with a plain connection error — that is the expected, correct result.

With a live engine, import demo/n8n/log-and-execute-decision.json — a real workflow that logs a decision and executes it, branching on whether policy allowed or blocked the execution.

Profiles

All four, matching the contract exactly (test/contract-parity.test.ts): observe (default) · govern · execute · full (opt-in). Enforcement happens client-side, before any network call.

Notes

  • Not eligible for n8n's Cloud verification program — that program requires zero runtime dependencies, and this node genuinely needs @modelcontextprotocol/sdk to speak MCP correctly. It is a fully real, tested community node for self-hosted n8n — the actual target audience.
  • Apache-2.0, deliberately: n8n's community-registry lint hard-requires MIT in package.json; this package keeps org-wide license consistency instead, so it likely cannot be listed in n8n's official registry. Direct install works fine either way.
  • Arguments: Get Contract and Execute Decision have real typed fields; the other five operations take a JSON Arguments object, because their exact shape is discovered from the connected engine's contract at call time and varies by engine version.
  • Tests: real @modelcontextprotocol/sdk McpServer over a real local HTTP socket — pnpm test in the package directory.
