@timeline24 timeline24 released this 03 Apr 06:27

The main timeline is published at github.com/kreier/timeline. So this here is just a snapshot in time to have a release in this fork.

Reasons for this Release

With v4.5 in April 2024 we have some good translations to English, German and Vietnamese. And the timeline is already relatively complete to compare timelines of old civilizations like Rome, Greece, China (no exact date prior to 842 BC) and Israel. And a note about the Egyptian timeline created by Manetho that was reconstructed only centuries later and was initially intended as a counterpart to the question "Who has the oldest history" in the times of Greek philosophers arguing with Jewish people (4th century BC and still in the time of Josephus in 1st century AD).

Manetho

The challenging part of Manetho is his dynasties and where they should be in time. After the Early Dynastic Period in 2686 BC the Old Kingdom of Egypt started with the Third Dynasty and lasted until the Sixth Dynasty to 2181 BC. That's 4 dynasties over the period of 505 years and has lots of artifacts, like the three pyramids of Gizeh in the 4th dynasty. What followed is the First Intermediate Period of Egypt from 2181–2055 BC or 126 years with the 6th to 11th dynasty. These 6 dynasties lasted much shorter that the preceding 4 dynasties, and surprisingly have very little artifacts to present day.

One example: 7th dynasty is described by Manetho that 70 kings reigned in 70 days. Not a single artifact can be assigned to this period. See the history of our current understanding of his kings list and dynasty record in the Wikipedia
