File	Description
nethack-500-win-x64.zip	Portable build — unzip anywhere and run NetHackW.exe (GUI) or NetHack.exe (console).
nethack-500-win-x64-debugsymbols.zip	Debug symbols (.PDB). Only needed for crash report analysis — regular players can ignore this.
SHA256SUMS.txt	SHA-256 checksums for verifying downloads.

Verifying the download (PowerShell)

Get-FileHash nethack-500-win-x64.zip -Algorithm SHA256

Compare the printed hash with the matching line in SHA256SUMS.txt.

SmartScreen note

Builds are not Authenticode-signed yet, so Windows SmartScreen
may warn the first time you run NetHackW.exe or NetHack.exe.
Click More info → Run anyway once you have verified the
SHA-256 above.

(An MSI installer is planned for a future release once code
signing is in place; until then the portable zip is the only
published Windows artifact.)
