  • Added experimental Linux x86-64 builds using Vulkan, without Wine.
  • Added native macOS builds for Intel and Apple Silicon using Metal, without Wine or Rosetta.
  • Added guided Linux and macOS installers with dependency setup, a disc picker and application shortcuts.
  • Added full macOS game builds and offline CPU, audio, effects and storage checks in CI. Both architectures also pass the generated Mac application's launcher checks.
  • Improved music import portability, Mac graphics initialization and platform setup instructions.

Linux and macOS builds need testing. Gameplay, sound, visual accuracy and performance still need checks on real Linux PCs and both types of Mac. Apple Silicon CI passes offscreen Metal checks; Intel CI's virtual GPU is unsupported, so Intel graphics still need compatible hardware testing.

Installing and updating

Download Installation.zip and extract it into a folder you will keep. Your own US Xbox Burnout 2 XISO is required; game files are not included.

  • Windows: Run Build.cmd.
  • Linux: Open Install.desktop (Allow Launching/Run as Program if prompted), or run bash Install.sh. Setup installs missing tools on supported distributions, builds the game and adds an application-menu shortcut.
  • macOS: Install Xcode 16.3+ and finish its first-launch setup, then open Install.command. Building requires macOS 15.2+; the game targets macOS 14+ and a compatible Metal 3 GPU. Setup installs Homebrew and missing tools, builds for your Mac and adds Burnout 2 Recompilation.app to your home Applications folder.

To update, close the game and builder, back up your saves, settings and imported music, and extract this archive into your existing source folder while preserving its build and data folders. Rerun the installer for your platform. Keep the source and build folders together; rerun full setup after moving them.

See the platform setup and update instructions.
