allow use of TMS, WMTS base layers

there are cases where i wish to use an external base layer such as a USGS or NYS LIDAR layer to reference against, as opposed to the OSM, maptiler or mapbox imagery layers. a mechanism whereby i can specify such a layer would be very helpful.

There is a way to add Z X Y tiles

note that it doesnt work for more complex URL schemes (e.g. esri tiles)

thanks. i had not realized i could enter such urls. the LIDAR layers i wish to use don't seem to be available in z x y format, just wms/wmts

for context: i'm working with a survey map from 1790. the roads have shifted enough since then that they're not making great reference points. the occasional road/bridge crossing sort of works. but what i realized that the original parcel boundaries being surveyed are to a degree still evident today; the stone walls that have been abandoned in the woods can match up quite nicely with the surveyed parcel boundaries. i need LIDAR to see where the stone walls survive today.
