v0.2.0-rc.1 — GitOps Preview Toolkit

GitOps Preview Toolkit — first release candidate

Flux Manifest Preview is now GitOps Preview Toolkit. This RC introduces a
persistent local gRPC plugin architecture and automatic Crossplane composition
previews alongside Flux, Git, Helm, and Kustomize rendering.

Highlights

• gitops-preview is the primary CLI; fmp remains a compatibility entrypoint.
• gitops-preview-flux owns Flux/Git/Helm/path rendering. The core dependency
  graph excludes Flux, Helm, and the Kustomize execution builder.
• gitops-preview-crossplane discovers XRDs, XRs, Compositions, and Functions
  from rendered YAML and executes real Crossplane composition pipelines.
• Bounded expansion supports Flux → Crossplane → Flux/Helm → nested XRs, with
  content-aware invalidation, output replacement/removal, and collision checks.
• Unnamed composed outputs retain stable logical identities in diffs, policies,
  reports, exports, and agent/MCP artifacts without invented Kubernetes names.
• Agent/MCP services retain plugin processes between operations and isolate each
  render session.
• The HTML overview explicitly labels its eight-change preview and links to the
  complete resource list.

Install

Download a gitops-preview-toolkit_v0.2.0-rc.1_<os>_<arch>.tar.gz archive and
extract all four executables together into a directory on PATH. Linux and
macOS are supported on amd64 and arm64. checksums.txt covers all archives.

Alternatively, with Go 1.26.8 or later:

This is a prerelease. Use the explicit RC version rather than @latest.

Crossplane requirements and scope

Enable execution with --crossplane. Install the external Crossplane
controller binary v2.4.2, normally named crossplane-core, or supply its path
with --crossplane-engine. It is not included in the toolkit archives.

Docker is the default function runtime. Explicit trusted --crossplane-function name=host:port overrides support Development endpoints. Repository annotations
cannot grant runtime endpoints or select plugin executables.

This is a desired-state preview, not provider reconciliation, Kubernetes
admission, readiness prediction, or general cyclic controller simulation.

Migration

The Go module is now github.com/tobiash/gitops-preview-toolkit. Go consumers
must update imports. preview.WithHelm accepts neutral *config.HelmSettings;
SDK-backed building moved from pkg/render to pkg/build.

The fmp command, legacy configuration filenames, existing flags, FMP_*
environment variables, and Action inputs remain supported. Install the sibling
plugins together with either host. Update Action uses: references to the new
repository name.

Verified published artifacts

• Main-branch release gates: full race suite, vulnerability policy, native/arm64 builds, transport checks, and actual Crossplane functions.
• Release and downloaded-Action smoke test: successful.
• Independent checksum and functional verification of the uploaded Linux/amd64
  toolkit and compatibility archives: successful.
• Canonical Go module download and installation at this tag: successful.
• Actual downloaded toolkit rendering the staging/production four-XRD example:
  51 → 53 desired resources; 3 added, 17 modified, 1 deleted. JSON and HTML
  reports preserve the unnamed logical output correctly.
