Glide 0.4.2

Choose a tag to compare

@tobibytes tobibytes released this 24 Oct 17:57

Glide 0.4.2 fixes Quit and in-app updates.

Download

Glide-0.4.2.dmg works on Apple silicon and Intel Macs and needs macOS 14 or later.

This build isn't notarized by Apple yet. On a fresh install, open System Settings, then Privacy & Security, and click Open Anyway next to the message about Glide.

Fixes

  • Quit works again. Quit Glide from the menu bar or the launcher could leave Glide stuck, half-quit, and then Quit stopped responding.
  • Updates restart Glide properly. After installing an update, Glide could get stuck on "Installing… done" instead of restarting.

Updating from 0.4.0 or 0.4.1

Those versions still have the bug, so the update installs but Glide may not restart by itself. If Glide still says "Installing… done" after a few seconds, open Activity Monitor, select Glide, click the Stop button, choose Force Quit, then open Glide again from Applications. The update is already installed, and from 0.4.2 on, updates restart Glide by themselves.

Glide 0.4.1

@tobibytes tobibytes released this 24 Oct 16:07

Glide 0.4.1 makes updates easy to see.

Download

Glide-0.4.1.dmg works on Apple silicon and Intel Macs and needs macOS 14 or later. If you already have Glide, update from inside the app (see below).

This build isn't notarized by Apple yet. On a fresh install, open System Settings, then Privacy & Security, and click Open Anyway next to the message about Glide.

Changes

  • About shows your update status. It says "Glide is up to date" or which version is available, with Check for Updates and Update buttons.
  • Check Now shows what it is doing. A spinner while it checks, a clear result, and when Glide last checked.
  • Check for Updates… in the menu bar menu.
  • Settings and About check by themselves when you open them, if Glide hasn't checked in the last hour.
  • Steadier iPhone connections. The Glide Remote server now drops stalled connections more reliably.

Updating from 0.4.0

Go to Glide's Settings, then Updates & App, click Check Now, then Update to v0.4.1. You can also type update glide in the launcher. Glide downloads the update, checks its signature and checksum, and restarts.

Glide 0.4.0

@tobibytes tobibytes released this 24 Oct 15:36

Glide 0.4.0 brings Glide to your iPhone (beta).

Download

Glide-0.4.0.dmg works on Apple silicon and Intel Macs and needs macOS 14 or later. Open it and drag Glide onto Applications. If you already have Glide, it will offer this update by itself.

This build isn't notarized by Apple yet, so macOS blocks the first launch. To allow it, open System Settings, then Privacy & Security, find the message about Glide, and click Open Anyway.

New: Glide on iPhone (beta)

Turn it on in Glide, then go to Settings, then iPhone. Scan the QR code with your iPhone and Glide Remote opens in Safari. There's no app to install and no account.

  • Clipboard both ways. Send text, links and photos to your Mac, or grab what you copied on the Mac, even when Universal Clipboard gives up.
  • A remote in your hand. Use your phone as a trackpad, keyboard, media remote or slide clicker. Lock the Mac, start a timer, or run any Glide command.
  • Find files on your Mac and pull them to your phone.
  • Glide Agent from your phone, with every change waiting for your OK.
  • Works away from home. Shortcuts sync through your iCloud Drive, so you can send to your Mac and run workflows from anywhere. Phone automations like "when I leave home" can run Glide workflows.
  • Notifications through the free ntfy app when a timer ends, an automation fails, or Glide needs your approval.

Everything is off until you turn it on. Only phones you pair can connect, everything they send is encrypted, and clipboard, remote control and files each have their own switch. Details are in docs/PHONE.md.

Also in this release

  • Glide stays at about 30 MB of memory, because text recognition runs in a short-lived helper.

Glide 0.3.2

@tobibytes tobibytes released this 24 Oct 03:46

Glide 0.3.2 makes local AI models work without an API key.

Download

Glide-0.3.2.dmg works on Apple silicon and Intel Macs and needs macOS 14 or later. Open it and drag Glide onto Applications. If you already have Glide 0.3.x, it will offer this update by itself.

This build isn't notarized by Apple yet, so macOS blocks the first launch. To allow it, open System Settings → Privacy & Security, find the message about Glide, and click Open Anyway.

Changes

  • Local AI works without a key. Before, pointing Glide at Ollama or LM Studio still showed "Open Settings" in Quick AI, and extensions said AI wasn't set up. A server running on your Mac now counts as ready. Remote servers such as OpenRouter still need a key.
  • Easier setup in Settings → AI:
    • it explains that local models go through the OpenAI option;
    • one-click Ollama, LM Studio and OpenAI server buttons;
    • "No key needed for the local server" shows next to Test Connection.

To use Ollama:

  1. Run ollama pull llama3.2.
  2. In Glide, go to Settings → AI, choose OpenAI, and click Ollama.
  3. Enter llama3.2 as the model.

Glide 0.3.1

@tobibytes tobibytes released this 24 Oct 03:02

Glide 0.3.1 uses much less memory.

Download

Glide-0.3.1.dmg works on Apple silicon and Intel Macs and needs macOS 14 or later. Open it and drag Glide onto Applications. If you already have Glide 0.3.0, it will offer this update by itself.

This build isn't notarized by Apple yet, so macOS blocks the first launch. To allow it, open System Settings → Privacy & Security, find the message about Glide, and click Open Anyway.

Changes

  • Lower memory use. Capture Text, Scan QR Code and the clipboard's searchable image text used to raise Glide's memory to about 300 MB, and over 100 MB of that stayed in use afterwards. Text recognition now runs in a short-lived helper process that exits as soon as it's done, so Glide stays at about 25–30 MB.
  • What Can Glide Do? A new command that lists every Glide command, grouped by feature, plus things that work by just typing, such as 100 usd in eur, timer 25m tea or port 3000.
  • Automated memory and CPU checks. Memory use, memory growth over long use, and idle CPU are now checked automatically, so future changes can't quietly make Glide heavier.
  • Extensions now see Glide's real version number.

Glide 0.3.0

@tobibytes tobibytes released this 24 Oct 02:21

Glide is a keyboard-first launcher for macOS, built natively in Swift. Press ⌘Space and type to search apps and files, run commands, manage windows, use clipboard history and snippets, ask AI, and more.

Download

Glide-0.3.0.dmg works on Apple silicon and Intel Macs and needs macOS 14 or later. Open it and drag Glide onto Applications.

This build isn't notarized by Apple yet, so macOS blocks the first launch. To allow it, open System Settings → Privacy & Security, find the message about Glide, and click Open Anyway. The Read Me inside the DMG covers this too.

What's in 0.3.0

  • Launcher: fuzzy search across apps, files, commands, quicklinks, snippets and extensions. There's an optional vim mode, and What Can Glide Do? lists every command.
  • Productivity:
    • clipboard history with Paste Stack;
    • snippets that expand as you type;
    • text transforms;
    • inline conversions such as 100 usd in eur or 5pm london in tokyo;
    • timers and focus sessions;
    • Floating Notes, reminders and calendar.
  • Mac control:
    • window management, layouts and workspaces;
    • menu search;
    • Capture Text (on-screen OCR) and QR scanning;
    • color picker;
    • process and port killer;
    • system monitor and system commands.
  • AI: Quick AI, AI Chat, AI commands on the selected text, and Glide Agent. It uses your own Anthropic or OpenAI key, or any OpenAI-compatible server such as OpenRouter, Ollama or LM Studio. Keys stay in the macOS Keychain.
  • Extensions: an extension store, and support for Raycast-style React extensions, including AI, OAuth sign-in and menu bar commands.
  • MCP: Glide works as an MCP server, so Claude Code and other MCP clients can use its tools, and as an MCP client.
  • Menu bar: timers and focus countdowns show next to Glide's icon.
  • Sync and backup: through any folder you choose to sync. Glide never syncs secrets.

Glide updates itself from this page. You can turn that off in Settings → Updates.
