FreeVPN v0.2.0 — a Windows desktop client for the free public VPN Gate network.

• Per-app VPN (split tunnel) — route only the apps you choose through the VPN; the rest of your device stays on your normal internet. Built on ProxiFyre + an in-process SOCKS-over-tunnel proxy. One-click Run automatic setup installs the engine. (TCP only for now — QUIC/UDP can bypass.)
• ⚡ Fastest auto-failover — walks past dead VPN Gate servers until one connects.
• Kill-on-exit — the tunnel is tied to the app; if FreeVPN is killed for any reason, the VPN stops too (no orphaned tunnel).
• Single-instance + cleaner logs (no more Chromium cache spam).
• Emergency Disconnect launcher; misc fixes.

First, install OpenVPN

Install OpenVPN Community with default options: https://openvpn.net/community-downloads/ — it provides the connection engine and coexists with OpenVPN Connect.

⚠️ Note

VPN Gate relays are volunteer-run — great for a foreign IP or geo-unblocking, but don't use them for banking or sensitive logins.
