1.0 Release is here!
After spending way too much time dealing with .reg files, I eventually decided to switch to using Python’s winreg library instead.
Windows handles the registry in some.. very inconsistent ways.. behavior can even differ depending on whether you’re using 32-bit or 64-bit Python, and since I didn’t want to maintain two separate projects (or constantly fight with regedit), I went with winreg. Everything should work as intended, but if you run into issues, just report them in the Issues tab.
The application currently runs entirely in the command line, so there’s no fancy GUI.. yet...
For fucks sake and the sake of transparency: I did use ChatGPT to help rewrite parts of the original .reg code to Python winreg..
I was burned out after learning the .reg syntax, only to realise that this was a dead end.. The original plan was for Python to generate and execute a .reg file with user specified info, but Windows made that far more complicated than it needed to be.. and thats why this project was created to begin with.. first it was AutoPlay setup, now Registry Editor.. what next?
Anyways back on topic, this is what the program does.. yes. it just adds an option to a menu.
