Model2 NX 1.0 — experimental
First public build of Model2 NX, a Sega Model 2 arcade emulator for Nintendo Switch, powered by MAME 0.289.
⚠️ Experimental, work in progress. Games boot and play on real hardware, but most of them run well below full speed: Daytona USA runs at about a third of its real speed at stock clocks. Expect slowdowns and bugs.
What works
- MAME's Model 2 driver with its game list and menus.
- Joy-Cons and Pro Controller (Nintendo layout).
- NVRAM and settings are saved, also when the software is closed from the HOME menu.
- Performance log in
sdmc:/switch/model2nx/model2nx.log(frames per second and time per emulated CPU).
Controls
| Button | Action |
|---|---|
| − | Coin |
| + | Start |
| R3 | Test button (game's own test/service menu) |
| L + R | MAME's menu |
| − and + together | Back to the game list |
Installing
- Copy
model2nx.nrotosdmc:/switch/model2nx/. - Put your ROMs (MAME 0.289 zips) in
sdmc:/switch/model2nx/roms/. - Start it with title override (hold R while starting a game).
Daytona USA: set Game Assignments → Link ID to SINGLE in the test menu (R3) once, or it waits for linked cabinets.
Tips
- Overclocking the CPU with sys-clk (1785 MHz) helps a lot.
- Ryujinx is not supported for now (it cannot run code built with GCC 16's C++ exception handling).
Known limitations
- Speed: the main CPU (i960) and the geometry DSP (TGP) are interpreted. Recompilers are next on the roadmap.
- Model 2B and 2C games (SHARC, TGPx4) are untested and expected to be slower still.
No ROMs are included. Not affiliated with or endorsed by Sega or Nintendo.
