Release list
App 0.4.15
Open BRX phone app 0.4.15
This build installs over 0.4.6 or later. If you still have 0.4.5 or earlier, uninstall that once first: older builds
used a test key, and Android will not update across keys.
Fixed
- A kill on a RED player now confirms with the right team. Red is team 0 and now the default in every game, and
the phone used to treat team 0 as "unknown" when it paired a kill confirm, so a red victim's confirm could pair
with any team's. - Queued voice cues play whole and in order (F419). A queued cue now waits until the clip before it has ended,
so cues that arrive close together are no longer cut, dropped or reordered by the gun. Urgent lines never wait,
and a cue that would start more than 6 s late is skipped. - The phone hill uses the same default range as the Stick and Mission Control: -75 dBm (F383). The outdoor walk
will set the final value.
Works with the new Mission Control
- Mission Control's new GAMES screen (PLAY and BUILD), teams and the King of the Hill hold target need no
phone change beyond this build: the phone reads the new game briefing, team names and weapon types from Mission
Control.
For testers
- The Android splash setup now also upgrades an older checkout (build scripts only; nothing changes on screen).
App 0.4.14
Open BRX phone app 0.4.14
This build installs over 0.4.6 or later. If you still have 0.4.5 or earlier, uninstall that once first: older builds
used a test key, and Android will not update across keys.
Pickups (now on by default)
- Powerups are on by default (F372). The host starts Mission Control with
--no-powerupsto switch them off. The claim signal thresholds are still
placeholders until the outdoor calibration walk. - A pickup weapon is no longer lost when you leave the app and come back mid-match (F418). A held heavy weapon now
ends only when you fire it empty, so a stray 0 from the gun no longer throws away your Rockets (F417). - The switch card sits on top for ALT and pickups (F400). Kill cards, feed rows and badges wait underneath it and
then get their full time. The card's labels are at the 11 px floor, and a pickup's ACTIVE tile reads CONFIRMED. - No pickup countdown any more (F425). The HUD says " AVAILABLE · AT STATION N" when a pickup is ready, and
never says that it was taken, or who took it. - The Overshield has its own magenta colour, clear of the team colours.
Fixed
- A lost spawn write at go-live no longer kills you (F416). The phone asks the gun, re-sends the spawn if it never
landed, and books no death. If it cannot tell, the HUD says "GUN MAY NOT BE SPAWNED · HOST: FORCE RESPAWN".
Station scanning pauses around spawns and pickup grants, so the radio is free for those writes. - After ALT, the ammo number, the reserve and the pips show the new weapon at once (F394).
- A phone released from station duty rejoins Mission Control as a player (F421).
- The ⓘ utility icon sits below the Android status bar and can be tapped (F420).
New on screen
- The idle screen says MC JOINED or MC NOT JOINED after SET MY GUN (F422).
- In King of the Hill, the score board shows each team's hill hold time (F424).
- Team 3 is PURPLE, as the gun paints it (F423).
- New mode art on the briefing, including King of the Hill.
For testers
- iOS: the WebView debugging switch now has an iOS side (B21). It is untested until the first Mac build.
App 0.4.13
Open BRX phone app 0.4.13
This build installs over 0.4.6 or later. If you still have 0.4.5 or earlier, uninstall that once first: older builds
used a test key, and Android will not update across keys.
Pickups (still off by default)
- A pickup weapon now shows the full weapon-switch screen, the same as ALT (F400). It shows when the weapon lands on
the trigger, on every SELECT between it and your own weapon, and when its charges run out. The card carries the
item's colour and its charges. The Overshield shows no card: the shield bar fills and the shield recharge sound plays. - Picking up the same weapon again adds its charges, up to double the station's drop (F381). Rockets hold at most 4.
- The briefing names the game's pickups before it starts (F403), each in its own colour.
- A pickup claim waits up to 15 s for the station and says CONFIRMING meanwhile (F380), instead of reporting
STATION NOT ANSWERING after 3 s. - ALT stays in step with the gun after a pickup (F379). The phone tracks the gun's own ALT position apart from the
weapon on the trigger, so ALT no longer names the wrong weapon after a rocket shot. - The powerup timer keeps its place after a spawn (F396).
Fixed
- A hill taken from the other team now plays its capture sound and HUD event (F384), and the HILL CAPTURED card
clears after a few seconds (F385). - The hill tick stops while the hill is contested, and plays every 3 s while held and 1.5 s while losing (F382).
- Poison's tick sound waits for a quiet gun (F393); the damage itself is unchanged.
- The launch splash no longer looks stretched (F395).
For the host
- The phone's utility drawer offers only the MVP station kinds: respawn, pickup and hill (F405).
Not yet
- Powerups (F372) are still off by default; they turn on once the full powerup bench sitting passes.
- iOS has no distribution build yet, and the WebView debugging switch is Android only (B21).
Open BRX phone app 0.4.12
Open BRX phone app 0.4.12
If you have 0.4.6 or later, this build installs over it. If you still have 0.4.5 or earlier, uninstall that once first:
older builds used a test key, and Android will not update across keys.
Fixed
- Solo Last Man Standing registers hits (Q13). Every player in a solo match shares one team, and team damage was
off, so no hit could land and every kill counted as a team kill. Team damage is now on only in a one-team game
(free-for-all, or Last Man Standing played solo). Every team game keeps it off, and the phone briefing and
Mission Control say TEAM DAMAGE: OFF. - A corrupted health reading no longer leaves a player unkillable (F341). After a dropped Bluetooth chunk, the app
repairs an impossible health, armour or shield reading instead of reporting it as is. - On Android 11 and older, the tagger picker now says why it finds nothing (F340). It asks you to turn Location
services on, since a Bluetooth scan needs that setting on those versions, and it rescans once you do. - Kill and shield sound cues no longer queue up behind the shield's background hum (F347). The hum held later
cues back; the gun no longer plays it. - The "health critical" line no longer plays after the death scream (F375).
- Reconnecting mid-game restores your real ammo count, not a free magazine (F164).
- A pickup Stick station no longer offers its item before your first spawn (F374).
New
- A voiced medal for every kill streak, from a double to an eight-kill (A61), and a recap AWARDS table with honours
such as Killjoy and Beat Down (A63). - Your own death always wins the announcer queue (F351): no other line cuts in ahead of it.
- No kill confirmation plays for a kill after the whistle, whether the frag cap, a host end or time runs out, and a
kill credited only to a smoke or EMP hit now credits the team, not a bystander (F357, F354). - A phone with no saved Mission Control auto-joins the only one it finds, no tap needed (F346 d).
- Gamertags are capped at 16 characters, with a warning past 12; the lobby and kit screens say so (F366).
- Pistol Extended Mags is now +50% ammo, not double (D5); every other weapon keeps the x2.
- SMG and Rocket Launcher outdoor range move to 40%, Rail Gun to 100% (F231); a held Assault Rifle trigger now uses its retuned recoil stages (F308).
For the host
- Mission Control now assigns every station's id itself; you never type one (F364).
- A station's range and signal strength can be edited live, on the phone, the Stick or in Mission Control, and the
change syncs everywhere (F365). - Mission Control's alerts now follow one red/amber/neutral colour rule across every screen (F221).
- Respawn range is set per platform, about 3 m for either a phone station or a StickS3 (F345).
- In Infection, only the survivors hear that someone was infected; the zombies do not (F319). The extraction
alert is now a silent HUD event, and Mission Control keeps its event feed across a restart. - The hill setup says what each hill source announces (F319): a phone or Stick hill says captured, lost and
contested; the post-MVP grenade hill never says contested. - WebView debugging is now a switch in the app's diagnostics panel (Android only), default on for tester builds
(B21).
Not yet
- Powerups (F372) are built but still off by default; they turn on once the full powerup bench sitting passes.
- iOS has no distribution build yet, and the debugging switch above is Android only (B21).
- King of the Hill and melee still show a generic icon in the phone briefing; custom art is still to come
(S32). - A solo Last Man Standing match can still end without declaring a winner (F377), a gap the Q13 fix exposed.
Open BRX phone app 0.4.9
Open BRX phone app 0.4.9
A hotfix. Everyone should update. If you have 0.4.6 or later, this build installs over it. If you still have
0.4.5 or earlier, uninstall that once first: older builds used a test key, and Android will not update across keys.
Fixed
- A crash while the link to Mission Control kept reconnecting. When the phone's link to Mission Control
dropped and reconnected over and over, the app could crash. The link now sends its events on one thread, so
a reconnect loop no longer crashes it. The bug was present since 0.4.6.
Confirmed
- The headset-join fix from 0.4.8 is bench-confirmed. The phone waits for the headset to join the gun before
the gun link counts as up (F293). The bench test re-measured it.
Not yet
- Per-venue IR power (S48), the close-range headset-damage setting (F275) and hearing your own
team's hill capture (F312) are still waiting on bench tests. They are not in this build. - Powerups are still built but OFF by default.
Open BRX phone app 0.4.8
Open BRX phone app 0.4.8
If you have 0.4.6 or 0.4.7, this build installs over it. If you still have 0.4.5 or earlier, uninstall that once first:
older builds used a test key, and Android will not update across keys.
New in play
- The shield meter. Your shield is now a bar along the top edge of the HUD, in the style of Halo. It is
blue when full, and turns red, with a red tint on the frame, when it is low or broken. An overshield shows
as a lime layer on top by day. The bar has no words or numbers. Health stays in the bottom left, and a game
without armour shows no armour number or bar (S59).
Better connections
- The headset joins before the gun counts as linked. The phone now waits for the headset to join the gun
before the gun link counts as up, instead of connecting in a loop. If the headset has not joined after
60 s, the HUD says HEADSET NOT JOINED · POWER-CYCLE THE HEADSET (F293). The timing is provisional until the
next bench test re-measures it.
Older phones
- An Update page instead of a blank app. On an Android phone whose Android System WebView is older than
version 111, the app now shows a page asking you to update WebView from the Play Store. Before, the app
opened blank (F334). - iOS needs 16.2 or newer.
Not yet
- Per-venue IR power (S48), the close-range headset-damage setting (F275) and hearing your own
team's hill capture (F312) are still waiting on bench tests. They are not in this build. - Powerups are still built but OFF by default, as in 0.4.7.
Open BRX phone app 0.4.7
Open BRX phone app 0.4.7
If you have 0.4.6, this build installs over it. If you still have 0.4.5 or earlier, uninstall that once first:
older builds used a test key, and Android will not update across keys.
Steadier matches
- Mission Control can restart mid-match without losing you. A new automated stress test plays whole
matches against Mission Control and restarts or crashes it at bad moments. It found four ways a restart
could drop a player's kills and deaths from the board (F326-F329). All four are fixed:- a player who joined after the start;
- a phone that was offline during a second restart;
- an offline phone when the frag cap was checked again;
- a player who joined in the two seconds before a crash.
- A kit-lock notice clears with its game. A "kit locked" notice from one game no longer stays on the
phone into the next game (F133). - Gun light timings. The phone and Mission Control now read the gun's light-readout timings from one
place, so they cannot drift apart (F52). You will not see a change.
For the host
- Volume per game. A game can set its own play volume (60-100) on the game setup screen. It stays when you
switch modes, and a stock game uses the venue volume (K8). - Scanner respawn keeps its trigger setting. A scanner respawn's trigger or presence setting no longer
resets when the host changes the game settings (F325). - A clear message when the port is busy. If another program holds Mission Control's port, Mission Control
now says so and stops, instead of printing its start banner first (F108). - Console fixes from the visual review (F318). When Mission Control is offline, LIVE reads LAST KNOWN
instead of a red LIVE. The event feed no longer shows the same go-live or recall line twice. Locked KIT
controls look locked, and small buttons and labels are bigger. - M5StickS3 stations join over Wi-Fi. A StickS3 station can now join Mission Control over Wi-Fi as a
utility station, and it keeps working if the Wi-Fi drops (H8).
Built, but off
- Powerups are in this build, and they are OFF by default. Nothing about them shows in a normal game.
A host turns them on only by starting Mission Control with./start.sh -- --powerups. They stay off until
the bench tests of the spare weapon slots are done. When on, a station spawns a weapon (Rockets, Rail Gun)
or an Overshield on a timer, and you take it by standing about a foot from the station for one second.
Not yet
- Per-venue IR power (S48), the close-range headset-damage setting (F275) and hearing your own
team's hill capture (F312) are still waiting on bench tests. They are not in this build.
BRX Combat HUD 0.4.6 (Android, release-signed)
Open BRX phone app 0.4.6
Uninstall the old app once before you install this one. 0.4.6 is the first build signed with the
Open BRX release key. Earlier builds used a test key, so Android will not install 0.4.6 over them.
New in play
- What hit you. When you are hit, the HUD names the weapon. It reads the hit's IR cell as well as its
strength, so two weapons that hit equally hard are told apart far more often. - Who you killed. A kill names the player you took out: their tagger says who downed it.
- Poison kills count. A kill by poison credits the player who poisoned you.
- The death screen. When you go down, you see who killed you and with what: the weapon, or PICKUP, CRIT or
POISON, or "A / B" when two weapons could match. Below that are up to four callouts (damage taken, damage
dealt, kills and time alive) and a game strip with the clock, the team race, the hill and your K/D.- A callout with nothing to say is not shown.
- A number still waiting on Mission Control is greyed, with an out-of-sync icon, so the screen never passes
off a partial count as final.
- IR callouts. A death or a hill capture is sent by infrared from the tagger where it happened, so nearby
players see it on their HUD even when their phone has no signal. - Recoil and balance. Recoil now builds with each round you fire in one pull, scaled by calibre, and
resets when you release the trigger. Several weapons were retuned against the duel rules. The full list,
with the reason for each, is the Balance rules table at the top of
weapon-design.md.
Cleaner screens
- One callout card. Kills, IR callouts and hill changes share one card, and a kill buzzes once.
- Night mode reads better. Night screens keep their frames, drop the green, and the READY UP button is the
strongest control on screen. - Bigger controls. Kit, loadout and result buttons are at least 44 px tall on the smallest phones.
- The host's console. Mission Control got a full visual pass. Among the changes: a King of the Hill match
shows hill time as the score, the board stays honest after Mission Control restarts, the lobby and kit screens
lock while a match is live, and the spectator wall fits every player.
Better connections
- Coverage is counted honestly. Mission Control now counts a phone as covered only when it reaches
Mission Control through the internet tunnel on mobile data. You do not need to change any settings. - Stays on the game Wi-Fi. On Android, the app keeps its link to Mission Control on the game Wi-Fi
even when that Wi-Fi has no internet. Leave mobile data as it is. - The host can see a protected player. If your phone drops out just after you respawn, the host's
board now warns that you may still be protected.
Not yet
- Per-venue IR power (S48) and the close-range headset-damage setting (F275) are still waiting
on bench tests. They are not in this build. - Hearing your own team's hill capture (F312). With friendly fire off, the team that takes a grenade
hill may not hear its own capture. A fix is ready but bench-gated, so it is not in this build.
Open BRX phone app 0.4.11
Open BRX phone app 0.4.11
If you have 0.4.6 or later, this build installs over it. If you still have 0.4.5 or earlier, uninstall that once first:
older builds used a test key, and Android will not update across keys.
Fixed
- Each game is now scoped to itself (F339). In 0.4.10, players and Bluetooth stations (respawn points and
hills) already saw each other, but nothing tied them to one game, so two games at the same venue could hear each
other's stations and players. Now every phone and every station Mission Control arms carries the game's own
number, and each one ignores the other game. Update Mission Control too; with an older Mission Control the phone
behaves as 0.4.10 did.
For the host
- King of the Hill defaults to a Bluetooth hill. The stock King of the Hill game now uses a spare phone in the
utility role as the hill, taken by standing on it. The BRX Smart Grenade hill is post-MVP: you can still pick it
in the game designer (it is marked POST-MVP), and a game you saved with the grenade keeps it. - A hill station the game would ignore is named. If you assign a hill (CONTROL) station while the game's
objective source is the grenade or an IR station, every phone ignores the station. Mission Control now says so
and tells you to set OBJECTIVE SOURCE to PHONE. - A restarted station keeps its count. If a station restarts during a match, its hill time and respawn count
in Mission Control no longer drop back to what it last saved.
Not yet
- Per-venue IR power (S48), the close-range headset-damage setting (F275) and hearing your own
team's hill capture (F312) are still waiting on bench tests. They are not in this build. - StickS3 Bluetooth hills and respawn points are built but not yet bench-tested over the air, and a Stick
needs new firmware for them. - Powerups are still built but OFF by default.
Open BRX phone app 0.4.10
Open BRX phone app 0.4.10

older builds used a test key, and Android will not update across keys.
Fixed
- The shield meter after a stun. If you were hit while stunned, the shield meter's slow refill bar could
stay frozen at its old width. It now clears when the hit lands (S59).
Powerups (still OFF by default)
Powerups stay off unless the host starts Mission Control with ./start.sh -- --powerups. These fixes come from
the bench tests of the pickup (F331):
- A steadier pickup signal. At the edge of a station's range, the phone could restart its Bluetooth signal
up to four times a second. Restarts are now at least 0.3 s apart, and a failed restart waits 1 s. - Walking away while stunned drops the claim. A stunned player who left a station's range still claimed its
item. The claim now holds only while you stay in range. - Mission Control hides the powerups strip when powerups are off.
For the host
- Stations resist tampering during a match (A58). Mission Control now locks each StickS3 station's own
buttons from the lobby push until the match ends, so a player cannot reset or reassign it mid-game. If a
station restarts during the match (the side button is not locked yet), Mission Control shows STATION #N
RESTARTED, and it catches a restart even when the station was out of Wi-Fi. A connected station that goes
quiet mid-match shows STATION #N OFFLINE. If the lobby runs so long that a station's lock would run out
mid-match, LOBBY says so. ARMED and LIVE have a two-tap UNLOCK STATIONS. Phone stations are not locked.
Not yet
- Per-venue IR power (S48), the close-range headset-damage setting (F275) and hearing your own
team's hill capture (F312) are still waiting on bench tests. They are not in this build.
