@toolicious toolicious released this 22 Sep 13:40

Fixed

  • The ⊞ Apps button opens Amazon's Apps screen instead of your launcher. Mapped to an app, it now opens that app every time. (#9)
  • ↩ Back or ◉ OK on the highlighted Home button in Amazon home now also works on newer Fire OS 8 builds.
  • A mapped ⊞ Apps button no longer fires while you browse other Appstore screens.
  • When you map a button, Home on Fire's confirmation no longer disappears behind the app that button opened.
  • On Fire OS 7, the loading screen stays up until a slow launcher has started.

Added

  • Buttons that only open the Amazon home screen, like some Live TV buttons, now tell you why they can't be mapped. (#10)

Dev build for Fire OS 7 testing.

  • Logs the view ids of Amazon's own screen and which navigation tab holds focus, so a launcher this build carries no markers for can be identified from a log.
  • No behavior change over dev08. The added fields only appear with verbose logging turned on.

Dev build for Fire OS 7 testing.

  • Tells Amazon's apps screen from its home screen by the view ids of its menu entries. The Apps button no longer opens the launcher when Amazon's app grid announces no window of its own.
  • Streaming buttons no longer tie up Home. The grace window after a mapped button now applies to the Apps button alone.
  • With verbose logging on, every Amazon home arrival records those view ids, so a launcher we have no markers for can be added from a log.

@toolicious toolicious released this 14 Sep 11:11

Dev build for Fire OS 7 testing.

  • Reverts the dev05 change that could misread a slow device's grid close as a Home press and stall. For about 5 seconds after a mapped-button launch, Home may reopen that app; press it again to reach the launcher.
  • Buttons that only open the Amazon home screen now show why they can't be mapped.
  • Minor dialog text alignment.

Test build for #9. Not a release, stay on 1.5.1 if you are not testing this.

A Home press shortly after a mapped button now counts as a Home press again. dev04 treated any Amazon Home within five seconds as the grid closing and relaunched the app; now an app that is already on screen and gets covered more than 1.5 seconds after the button hands over to your launcher. A relaunch that still hangs in the Fire OS 7 app-switch lock shows the loading screen, with "Loading app…" as its caption.

Smaller fixes from a code review: pressing another mapped button or the Amazon Home button right after a mapped launch ends that five-second window, the relaunch also works with "Replace Home button" off, pressing Apps while inside the Appstore no longer counts as the grid, and the diagnostic log reads correctly on devices with more than 600 lines of our own output. The UI spells Amazon Home as a name everywhere.

Includes everything from dev02 to dev04.

Test build for #9. Not a release, stay on 1.5.1 if you are not testing this.

After a mapped button opens an app, Amazon's home can come up underneath once or twice, before or after the app is on screen. For five seconds after the button press that no longer counts as a Home press. If it covers the app, the app is launched again, with the loading screen on Fire OS 7. A Home press inside those five seconds lands back in the app, the next one works as usual.

Includes everything from dev02 and dev03.

Test build for #9. Not a release, stay on 1.5.1 if you are not testing this.

After a mapped button opened an app, Amazon's home could come up underneath for a moment. Home on Fire treated that as a Home press and started your launcher over the app. It now launches the app again instead.

On Fire OS 7 the loading screen now waits up to 10 seconds instead of 6.5, because the system alone holds a launch for 5 seconds. A second Home press while that launch is still queued no longer queues another one.

Includes everything from dev02.

Store screens no longer count as the Apps grid. The mapping matched the whole com.amazon.venezia package, and Amazon's store lives in there, so browsing it threw you into the mapped app. Only the grid matches now, and a button that lands on a store page can no longer be stored as the Apps mapping.

An ignored store screen is named in the log, so a report shows straight away when Amazon changes that surface again. On Fire OS 6 and 7 the log now also says how long a redirect took, or what was in front when it never arrived. Includes the log viewer fix from dev01.

  • Pressing Back in an app that a mapped button opened now lands on your launcher instead of re-opening the app. (#9)

The diagnostic log viewer only showed the lines that survived logcat's own tail limit, which on a device with heavy log traffic is a couple of minutes. It now keeps the last 400 lines Home on Fire wrote.
