Caustic 3 Vita v1.0.2

This maintenance release updates the Vita package to 01.03 and fixes the remaining preset-dependent harsh noise and redlining in Subsynth, Modular, and larger projects.

Installation

Download Caustic3Vita-v1.0.2.vpk, transfer it to a homebrew-enabled Vita, and install it with VitaShell. Installing over the existing title preserves ux0:/data/CAUSTIC3/ projects and settings.

Required Vita components:

  • kubridge.skprx
  • fd_fix.skprx, unless rePatch is installed
  • libshacccg.suprx

See the complete installation guide.

Audio fix

Caustic uses Android ARMv7 base AAPCS/softfp, while VitaSDK libm uses VFP registers. Earlier compatibility functions also relied on limited-range approximations. Some presets could therefore receive unstable filter coefficients, immediately redline Caustic machine meters, and produce full-scale scratchy noise.

01.03 replaces those approximations with accurate VitaSDK libm functions behind explicit softfp-to-hardfp ABI bridges. Single- and double-precision trigonometric, exponential, logarithmic, power, rounding, and remainder imports now cross the ABI boundary correctly.

Verification

  • Previously failing Subsynth presets and larger projects passed on physical Vita hardware.
  • Packaged eboot matches the hardware-tested eboot byte-for-byte.
  • Public-tree verification and host path-policy tests passed.
  • VPK ZIP integrity passed.
  • ARM disassembly confirms the required core-register/VFP argument and result shuffles.
  • VPK size: 74755343 bytes
  • VPK SHA-256: 7b10dae1eb0a1c692c954ffb560599236bdf9fb52533201abf5ed6de598cb2f8
  • eboot SHA-256: 8a573812e67724994e61a50bc8dac8756b01f2d9a6155595483b81c08ea486cd

Caustic 3 Vita v1.0.1

This maintenance release updates the Vita package to 01.02 and finalizes
the bundled skin collection after physical Vita testing.

Installation

Download Caustic3Vita-v1.0.1.vpk, transfer it to a homebrew-enabled Vita,
and install it with VitaShell. Existing ux0:/data/CAUSTIC3/ projects and
settings are preserved when updating with the same title ID.

Required Vita components:

  • kubridge.skprx
  • fd_fix.skprx, unless rePatch is installed
  • libshacccg.suprx

See the complete installation guide.

Changes in v1.0.1

  • Corrected Android BMFont/GLF scaling overrides that caused blank menu labels
    or enormous glyphs on Vita.
  • Verified Default, Flat, Blackbox, Frost, Darker, newskin, Julia, and Echo,
including the skin selector and preset browsers.
  • Added complete normalized Julia and Echo bundles to the enhanced release.
  • Removed accidental macOS AppleDouble metadata from skin directories.
  • Finalized the borderless custom LiveArea background and launch target.
  • Retains the additional curated presets and the original Vita Means Life
    welcome demo by trappunk/Tennis Rodman.

The source repository intentionally does not store Caustic's proprietary APK,
native library, generated VPK, or third-party content packs. Those materials
remain confined to this separately published complete binary release.

Known limitations

  • Microphone capture remains active while the app is open. Rej Poirier confirmed
that this matches original Caustic behavior and avoided intermittent failures
when toggling microphone initialization. Audio is not saved unless Caustic
records it, but active capture can affect privacy, battery, and performance
    headroom.
  • USB MIDI input is not supported.
  • Arbitrary user-added Android skins may require the same font normalization as
    the hardware-tested bundled collection.
  • Very demanding projects may exceed Vita CPU or memory limits.

Verification

  • VPK size: 74735215 bytes
  • VPK SHA-256: d2d89c921261ae5dd5903d0d2faa0f66051b7a3b30b56c9cb99b68375e5b3db9
  • eboot.bin SHA-256: cb9bc46df4304e0c9f5c513faa0ace81fd5e1f3e77a8bb88d711aaa952df5716
  • ZIP integrity: passed for all 321 entries
  • Bundled skin UI/preset-list checks on physical Vita: passed
  • Public-source enhanced VPK compilation: passed
  • GitHub Actions, public-tree verification, path-policy tests, and shell checks: passed

test. See SECURITY.md.

Caustic 3 Vita v1.0.0

The first complete, hardware-tested release of the unofficial Caustic 3
wrapper for PlayStation Vita. The Vita package version is 01.01.

Installation

Download Caustic3Vita-v1.0.0.vpk, transfer it to a homebrew-enabled Vita,
and install it with VitaShell. This is a complete VPK: users do not need to
compile the project or place an APK in a data folder.

Required Vita components:

  • kubridge.skprx
  • fd_fix.skprx, unless rePatch is installed
  • libshacccg.suprx

See the complete installation guide
for plugin sources, VitaShell USB/FTP steps, updating, backup, and troubleshooting.

Included

  • Caustic 3.2.2, the latest official Android maintenance build published by
Rej Poirier / Single Cell Software
  • Vita ARMv7 compatibility wrapper and GLES2-to-vitaGL rendering
  • 44.1 kHz Vita audio output and built-in/headset microphone input
  • Front-panel multi-touch and optional physical controls
  • Project, preset, sample, skin, save, export, and data-directory support
  • Additional curated presets beyond the vanilla factory library
  • Optional extra skins; use the default skin if an extra skin renders poorly
  • The original Vita Means Life welcome demo by trappunk/Tennis Rodman
  • Custom bubble and LiveArea artwork

Important fixes

  • Centralized path confinement for imported filesystem operations
  • Hardened APK/demo extraction and bounds validation
  • Corrected geometry, audio conversion, knob input, saving, microphone access,
fullscreen presentation, multi-touch, skin reload behavior, and Vita controls
  • Kept linker section garbage collection disabled after hardware testing proved
Caustic reaches required wrapper symbols indirectly through its runtime loader

Known limitations

  • Microphone capture remains active while the app is open. The wrapper does not
save that audio unless Caustic records it, but this has privacy, battery, and
    performance implications.
  • USB MIDI input is not supported.
  • Some third-party skins may have missing text, blank controls, incorrect
colors, or brief transition artifacts. The default skin is the compatibility
    baseline.
  • Very demanding projects may exceed Vita CPU or memory limits.

Verification

  • VPK size: 45,951,294 bytes
  • VPK SHA-256: 37922f6ba3e4d878eddd6e1a2bf4677970caf58f59fbc449ecc2228694898a26
  • eboot.bin SHA-256: 78abe06412bec32c51b2f47fb75692949e5577d2e82caedad24c8f9cb45298e7
  • ZIP integrity: passed for all 182 entries
  • Physical Vita regression test: passed
  • Static security audit and path-policy test suite: passed

The audit is transparent but is not an independent human penetration test.
