Probably a better image for a specific map / game scenario. With Rommel being presented so prominently and the German tanks "advancing" - this is a bit one-sided.

Did you do it yourself? Are you entitled to give the copyrights of these images to TripleA?

I think it would be great to have the first image substituting the current low quality one of TripleA in every thing where it shows (like the websites and the upper-left TripleA start screen plus the image you get prior to that right after clicking on TripleA.exe).

I hope a developer will take care of that if these images are rightfully usable by TripleA.

HOWEVER, before doing that, I think it is needed the first image being edited as removing all balkenkreuzes. It is clear enough that is a German soldier without that, and I don't think the TripleA soldier should be that expressively "taking sides" (and it would be consistent the most for the aircraft to have no symbols at all in the moment there is no swastika on the tail). Moreover, the German soldiers did not have such a patch there, so I'm not really sure why having it at all.

As a matter of personal preference, I would moreover suggest three more things.

• Completely removing the aircraft (leaving only the soldier).

• I don't know what is that thing that the soldier has on his right leg? In the current image, the soldier has a stielhandgranate sticking out from his right boot. I would say either having that or nothing.

• Give some more skin colour to the hands to bring them at least to be the same colour as the face, preferably a little more saturated. As it is, it looks like it is wearing gloves with such grey hands.

@DanVanAtta I'm curious what you think about this. I assume it will be up to you to decide if doing anything with these images.

The live realism is interesting/compelling. I found out the original image was to mimic a toy piece, with a small platform that toy soldier stood on (replicating a game piece). EG: https://www.ebay.com/itm/127464653433?chn=ps&google_free_listing_action=view_item

I wouldn't mind seeing that returned, it's a nice homage to the theme. The TA lettering on its own might be useful as well.

@PopTechWWII I think this one looks perfect. I suggest having a version with and a version without the background (meaning transparent background) (so the developers may choose one or the other).

Not having the aeroplane is just my (clear) preference, but the TripleA logo does have it.

@DanVanAtta Do you mean that it would be better to have it looking like a soldier's miniature (for wargames) or even like a toy piece (for children) rather than an actual soldier? Should it better be monochrome (unpainted) or painted? Should it have the platform?

Personally, I like it as it is. As it is, I think that it can be either an actual soldier or an extremely high quality and very well painted miniature.

@DanVanAtta Are you going to use this image? I think it would be particularly good for the loading screen (the image you get immediately after double clicking on TripleA.exe until TripleA opens). Should @PopTechWWII give a more formal and irreversible authorization to use it for TripleA?

I think this looks great and I love it it EXCEPT that (as I said) I think you misinterpreted the stielhandgranate tucked in his right boot as some sort of pocket on the upper calf.

Actually, the TripleA logo may or may not have the aeroplane. For example, the one in the main website (https://triplea-game.org/) as well as forum (https://forums.triplea-game.org/) does not, but I think that one is rather the exception.

My preference is no aeroplane (as I said), but I guess it should be up to the main developer/s to state his/her/their preference on this matter. Maybe a layered file where the aeroplane can be switched on/off (as well as the background)?

Agree. I think that, if we want to pick one of these image to substitute the current TripleA logo (and I assume we definitely do), the all-grey one looking like a plastic soldier is the best pick hands down. I like them all, but this one is just in brand the most and closer in concept to current. (Better using one of the ones below, without the weird pocket on the right calf.)

As TripleA in general is primarily focused on typical/basic world scenarios, I think Emperor Showa is a must. The optional one is rather Mussolini, Italy not being present in any basic games except V3.

i like the looks of this but i’m not sure if we would ever want to theme the engine itself seems like this would be good for graphic for a map though

Is that Hirohito? I'm not recognising him. Anyway, if he is Hirohito, I think he looks too old there.

I would switch positions of Hitler and Hirohito. Makes more sense to me for Hitler to be at the centre (even though in many TripleA games Japan soon ends up being stronger than Germany).

The part I wonder about - TripleA itself is just an engine. @doctored mentioned this: "theme the engine itself seems like this would be good for graphic for a map though"

Considering the game was originally made to play the Axis and Allies board game and I assume "TripleA" stands for "A"xis "A"nd "A"llies it makes sense to use a WWII theme. Selling it that way I believe will go farther than anything else.

i think we want to stay as far away from any kind of direct branding ties to A&A personally. the style itself is fine but i wonder if we can incorporate more time periods kind of along the lines of your civ 5 suggestion. my 2¢ fwiw

Do we have any data on the the most downloaded and played maps? Because I am pretty sure the most popular and played maps are all WWII related. Outside of the Roman Empire I do not know any specific war that is more popular or as widely discussed as WWII. The problem with different time periods in a single montage is it makes it look like a Civilization game and not a military strategy game.

I originally found the game because of the Axis and Allies board game.

I agree we should not brand it directly with A&A but using the popularity of the board game series is free marketing. Besides nothing is being sold here for profit and as long as we do not use any copywritten material there should be no problem.

yes i understand the game/engine was originally developed as a sort of tool for playing the board game as i understand things. i was around pretty early but not at the very beginning. unfortunately, none of the actual og devs are still around to give their perspective/view on things but please understand that there are some issues in terms of this connection historically speaking.

the whole reason the app/engine exists separately from the maps is this potential for confusion. it is a very deep subject that cannot possibly be fully retold in this setting but tldr…

we absolutely need to avoid any obvious or direct branding connections to the axis and allies board game ip
if you look into this you will understand directly i assume :)

we should look at this as a broadening rather than a narrowing of our artistic perspectives here imo. i am assuming u have been using ai tools here. i would ask it to present a sort of all encompassing historical view of all notable generals/admirals/whatevers in that same artistic style might just give us something new and great :)

yes i think this logo/icon can/should be replacing every instance including the web.

re the artwork it is obviously nice. if we can make it make it sort of time period agnostic another question is exactly where we’d put it. a new splash screen i suppose?

All sounds pretty reasonable. A new splash and have an updated logo in the top left all sound pretty agreeable.
